Congrats to Matt & his players on the regional title. Matt's a class act as a coach & hope they represents the 10th well in the state tourney, I really enjoyed talking to him for about an hour after our game Monday ! ( I still wish it was us though playing Thursday )

“It’s a huge win,” Puckett said. “For two years in a row, we’ve had a rough time with a young team, but I told them we just had to keep battling and (our) time would come. Things when right for us and we had a few (hits) here and there and we got this win.

 

“The seniors (Mitchell, Haley Collins and Hunter Thomas) battled, battled and battled. They went through two years when we were sub-par.They came back this year and made some noise. Hopefully we’ll make some noise (in the state tournament).”

 

Harrison County turned heads with a 5-3 upset over favorite Bourbon County in the semifinals but Clark put the Fillies in the hole early, scoring three runs on three hits in the third inning to set the tone for the remainder of the contest.

 

Megan Terrell highlighted the third inning with a double that scored a pair of runs that broke a 1-1 deadlock and gave Clark the lead for good. Clark managed just one hit in the first two innings but adjusted to Harrison County’s starting pitcher, Bailey Conley, a seventh-grader.

 

“We knew coming (into the game) their pitching was going to be the off-speed stuff and it had a lot of spin,” Puckett said. “We just had to put balls in play and adjust. It took us about two innings (to adjust) and we finally started hitting it. The girls got fired up and when you get things rolling, in this tense of a game and things start going your way a little bit, you have to take advantage (of the situation).”

 

Sydney Anderson and pitcher Jenna Edwards paced Clark’s offense with a pair of hits. Edwards slapped two singles, while Anderson laced a singe and a double and drove in two of Clark’s five runs.

 

Terrell, Mitchell, Melissa Hall and Madison Norton each had a hit, with Hall’s lone base hit going for extra bases. Hall was thrown out in a rundown from second to third trying to stretch a double into a triple in the second inning.

 

Clark added an insurance run in the fifth inning on Anderson’s RBI single.

 

For the third consecutive time, Edwards went the distance in the pitcher’s circle. Edwards scattered five hits and collected seven strikeouts.
