Engineers win the 56th district championship for the 3rd straight year

Powell County: 000-002-0 -- 2 ®, 3 (H), 2 (ER)

Estill County: 100-111-x -- 4 ®, 4 (H), 1 (ER)

 

Jacob Tuttle started for Estill County, pitching a complete game, K'ing 8 and walking 3.

 

Austin Mullins started for Powell County, pitching a complete game, K'ing 5 and walking 4.

 

Small ball is pretty much how this game was played.

 

1st Inning

Cody Portwood ROE and took 2 on the error, he would eventually steal 3rd.

 

Andrew Farmer K'd, McKinney walked (Day pitch ran)

 

Wade French got Estill on the board with an RBI ground out.

 

 

4th Inning

McKinney would walk again for Estill County (Day pitch ran)

 

Day would steal 2 and eventually score on an RBI hit by Freeman, after the run scored, Freeman was caught in a run down and tagged out.

 

 

5th Inning

Sparks and Crowe both walked back to back. Sparks stole 3rd. Cody Portwood drove him home on an RBI single.

 

Estill lead 3-0

 

 

6th Inning

 

Top 6th (Powell County)

Powell County got 2 on 2 RBI singles by Skidmore and Morton

 

Bottom 6th (Estill County)

McKinney would single to start the 6th off (Day pitch ran)

 

French ground out but moved Day to 2nd.

 

Noland singled to score Day 3rd.

 

That run made it 4-2 Estill County.

 

 

Top 7th

Martin would strike out which would be the 1st out.

 

Ventura ROE and took 2 on the error.

 

Jordan Woosley laid down a sac bunt and was safe at 1st on the throw. Powell had runners on the corners with 1 out

 

Caleb McCoy would hit a ground ball to Andrew Farmer at 2nd, Farmer would step on 2nd and throw to 1st for the game ending double play.

 

Powell County and Estill County will be a force in next week's region. Few years back, Estill County defeated Powell County 8-2 in the district championship only to beat Estill for the region championship the very next week.

 

 

Hopefully that isn't the case this year

I wouldn't be surprised to see both these teams in the championship game of the 14th region.
