After nearly two weeks of not getting any game action, the JV Birds returned to the diamond on Friday at Elder where they lost 7-2. What a complex Elder has. Puts everything in Northern Kentucky to shame for sure. Birds then played a double dip on Saturday against Ludlow at home and then St. Henry at their place. The Birds came away with a 20-0 victory in game 1 and 25-0 in game 2. After these 3 games they now have a record of 7-3-1. Next game on Monday afternoon at Scott.

Elder's place was nice last year without the stands. Can I assume they are now built?

Home side stands were done. the rest still remains. said they have been delayed by the weather.

Failed to note that John Penrod pitched a no-hitter in the first game Saturday against Ludlow.

JOAT -- thanks for the update. Tough to come off such a long layoff with Elder, but nice to get 3 games played in 2 days. Let us know who is hitting, pitching and fielding well so far this season.

 

After the 2014 Spring Break, I am sure many of the JV boys are even more motivated to make the "Ripken Roster" for 2015.

After the 2014 Spring Break, I am sure many of the JV boys are even more motivated to make the "Ripken Roster" for 2015.

 

Streaky bunch for sure, but when they are on they are on. Hitters that I have been impressed with to date are Austin Beal, Mitchell Cain, Mark Walkenhorst, Jared Dougherty, Austin Mayhew, Trent Casebolt and Eric Miller. All of these guys are solid line drive hitters, with Dougherty being the primary power source with his second long ball against St. Henry on Saturday. Kyle Rust and Ethan Doty have handled catching duties rather well and each has held there own at the plate despite being the only two frosh on the JV roster. Conner Kreeger is just getting back into the swing of things after an illness which gives them another nice hitter in the lineup, plus another pitcher. John Penrod knocked the cover off the ball this weekend in addition to his solid pitching so far throughout the year. Ricky Raisor and Elijah Miller-Cox have been solid on the mound from the outset and will continue to improve as the season wears on. Luke Lindeman, Conner Welsch, Brad Broering and Evan Ling have each had good moments both in the field and at the plate.
