Newport Central Catholic 14 Dayton 1 (9th Region All A Regional 2nd round)

14-1 in 5 innings is the final tonight from Newport in the 2nd round of the 9th Region All "A" Regional. With the victory the Breds move on to the top bracket Semi-Finals were they will take on Lloyd.

 

NewCath freshman, Haley Meyers, only allows 2 hits and strikes out 6 for her 5th win on the season, and junior 3rd baseman, Loren Zimmerman, collects 5 RBI's.

 

Newcath 1st - Bunt singles by Michaela Ware and Casey Kohls, and both score on Morgan Martini's single through the 3-4 hole into right..

Dayton 1st - Meyers walks 2 and hits a batter, but gets 3 K's to dash the hopes of the Greendevils.

 

NewCath 2nd - K, GO5-3, FO-9.

Dayton 2nd - Khrystian Windeler leads the inning off with a shot in the 5-6 hole that eludes Zimmerman at 3rd, but is back-handed by Ware at SS, however no throw was warranted. Following a GO-3 & K, Felicia Watts triples to centerfield to score Windeler.

 

NewCath 3rd - Ware leads off with a singles, moves to 2nd on sac, then scores on Kristen Schreiber's double to left. Schreiber scores on a throwing error.

Dayton 3rd - GO5-3, GO3 (on a very nice play by freshman Kennedy Bin I might add), FO-9.

 

NewCath 4th - Bin and Ware bunt for singles and Kohls walks, Schreiber with an RBI knock, then Zimmerman triples to the right-center gap plating all 3 runners. Taylor Burkart plates Zimmerman with base hit to left.

Dayton 4th - PO-4, BB, K, BB, GO-63.

 

NewCath 5th - 5 runs on 5 hits & 2 errors, highlighted by Zimmerman's 2 run single to right.

Dayton 5th - GO6-3, K, LO-4.

Newport Central Catholic 14, Dayton 1:

The Thoroughbreds (5-3) advanced to the All “A” 9th Region semifinals with a huge win Wednesday.

NewCath garnered 17 hits. Loren Zimmerman led the way going 2-for-4 with a triple and five runs batted in. Michaela Ware and Taylor Burkart went 3-for-4 each. Burkart had a run batted in.

Also for the Thoroughbreds, Morgan Martini, Casey Kohls and Kennedy Bin had two hits each. Martini added two runs batted in.

Freshman Haley Meyers pitched another gem on the mound for NewCath. She struck out six and allowed two hits.

The Thoroughbreds take on Lloyd Memorial in the semifinals. They advanced to the title game last year before losing to St. Henry.
