I was at the middle school and the high school meet. The middle school meet was way too long. I felt bad for the middle schoolers who had to run at 10:30 pm or later. That is rough to attend school all week and then participate in a meet so late.

The organizers of this meet should consider limiting the number of athletes from a team that can participate in an event. Maybe only two from a school. Or they could have moved the Masters events to another day.

The high school meet was great. Although the placement of some athletes in slower heats was a disappointment.

I agree! Max Pafunda from Pikeville was placed into the last heat in the 55m dash, and no one was even close! He should have been in a better heat!

Only one athlete could participate in each event from any given school. Unless you are referring to the Middle School meet.

we are working on a new format for next year, but I dont think limiting the athletes will be part of it. The Masters meet drew more than expected and The middle school meet hit record numbers. We are definitly experiencing growing pains, but as a coach in the State thats a good thing. The open and master athletes did express that running earlier in the day is an option for them. we have a lot to consider and I welcome any ideas to make the event better. Being a Track Fanatic though we will probably give everyone who wants the chance to run on the boards that opportunity. As for the HS meet if an athlete ran in the last heat he either had a bad seed time or none at all. My guess is they didnt send in a time.

Good to hear that the setup is being looked at. I agree that in middle school that as many kids as possible should get to run, but I felt bad for the 12-14 year olds that were running at 10:30 pm on a Friday night.

As far as the athletes that were running in slow heats, I know that the ones that I referred to did send in times. The one runner has run in two previous indoor meets and did have times. It's all right though because mistakes are made and we are all human. And this is the first meet of the season for most people (even though it is the indoor state championships).

Overall it was a GREAT meet. Just a few things that could be tweaked.

Thought id check to see what happened in the Single HS meet .Here is what I found. Coaches were asked to submit times from Outdoor meets corresponding to the event. ie 100M times for 55M dash. if coaches entered 55 or 60 M times they were asked to change to an outdoor time or receive a NT on their entry. here is the performance list from Class A. 55M dash. All the indoor times had to be changed or given no time. the reason being that not everyone has an indoor time and most coaches dont understand times for indoor ie the 5.00 time on the list. Indoor sprint races are also varied (50M,55M,60M) Its unfortunate but coaches very seldom make that mistake twice.
