Dayton 48 Bellevue 47 (36th District)

Great game up on the hill tonight. Bellevue held the lead most of the way. Dayton made a nice second half run and held off to win it.

The paper did not do the ending of this game justice. Up 3, Dayton has the ball under the opposite basket with a handful a seconds left. There is a girl wide open at the other end of the court. The inbounder throws the ball 3/4 length of the court and the ball is stolen, the girls drives to just past half court and heaves a desperation shot. She gets fouled in the act with about 1 second left. Goes to the line for 3. Misses the first, makes the second. She looks at coach and he tells her to clang it off the rim. She intentionally tries to miss it, it hits on the back board and goes in the hoop. Poor girl was so bummed. Great game by Kira Ross, Mallory Kubula as well as the Showalter girls.

Pretty strong effort from a Bellevue team that was Missing Courtney Schmits with a broken ankle.

They also had a high scoring lady quit the team a few weeks ago. I heard another walked off at half time last night?
