Final 43rd District Standings

 

Lafayette 7-1

Lexington Catholic 5-3

Paul Laurence Dunbar 4-4

Lexington Christian 3-5

Tates Creek 1-7

 

Lafayette will play the winner of LCA/Tates Creek and Lex. Cath will play PLD. Should be a great district tournament. PLD is the host this year.

So much for the pep rally where LCA labeled this the "biggest game in school history". Not sure they were aware that even with a win it only would have caused a coin flip. IMO LCA once again will not be in the region. At some point one would think they would eventually make one.

I thought the same thing about the coin flip, but my son showed me that the district formula calls for comparing head-on-head records first, not just total district won-lost. So if LCA won, it was automatic they’d be 2-seed, Dunbar the 3, and LexCath fall to the 4-seed and the play-in game with Tates Creek.

 

Saw the pep rally on the news last night. They had Doron Lamb and Jeff Shepherd as guest speakers. Musta worked ok, they had most of their student body there last night. Small gym, 1 level, maybe seats 700 and was near capacity. Loudest/noisiest gym in the area. Great atmosphere – couldn’t hear the PA for the noise, players couldn’t hear their coaches in timeouts, terrific all-boy accapella group doing national anthem, etc. LCA knows how to throw a party.

I wouldn't say it was the loudest gym I've visited this season but it was up there.

 

Pretty good game, I thought, not really too many fouls but with all the threes raining down who needs to get in the paint? Everyone seemed to enjoy themselves and that's what really matters.

This is just what I thought until looking it up last night. Per the KHSAA website, under district tournament info, each district picks its own method. The 43rd district form, signed by all schools, calls for a 3-way tie to be settled by first, head-to-head results, and secondly, a draw from 2 hats, one containing school names and the other containing seeding positions. I'd never heard of that before, it must have to do with the odds-making if they just drew seeds in order or something.

The unfortunate thing is that LexCath is the number two seed but has to play at Dunbar.

I think this will be a GREAT game. Catholic won the game at Catholic by 3 and Dunbar won the game played at PLD by 4. Should be a war and always a great atmosphere over at S.T. Roach!!

Per the KHSAA, the first tiebreaker in the 43rd District is head-to-head among the teams tied (meaning games played against Lafayette and Tates Creek are not considered for purposes of determining the first tiebreaker). Had LCA won, it would have had 3 tiebreaker wins (LexCath twice and PLD once), while PLD would have had 2 tiebreaker wins (LexCath, LCA) and LexCath would only have had 1 tiebreaker win (PLD). Odd as it may seem, PLD was guaranteed the #3 seed regardless of who won this game.
