The Newport Central Catholic Thoroughbreds girls basketball team advanced to the All “A” 9th Region semifinals with another sound win.

NewCath (15-2) handled Heritage Academy, 67-20 Wednesday. The Thoroughbreds led 32-4 at halftime.

The Thoroughbreds saw three players reach double-digits. Loren Zimmerman led the way with 13 points and seven rebounds. Teammates Ansley Davenport and Mikayla Seibert followed with 12 and 11 respectively.

NewCath faces Covington Holy Cross (11-3) on Friday at St. Henry. Game time is 7:30 p.m.

I believe NCC kept a couple of kids at home.

I hear Kiernan did not play, Mayes was not even there because she was sick, and Ware only played 5 minutes.

Nice job by Loren Zimmerman. :ylsuper:

For a sophomore, Davenport plays like a senior, in that she is very poised and does not get "flustered".

IMO, Seibert is the most underrated player on this team. I love the hustle she brings to the table ever night and the young lady can shoot

That is correct about Nikki, didn't even dress. Seems like Michaela was in for one trip down the floor and then out. 20-4 after the first and 42-4 at half. The infamous running clock in 2nd half.

Huge props to Coach Stoll and the staff. Even the kids that did play possibly could have pitched a shutout if they wanted to. The girls sat back and let Heritage have the perimeter, but nothing inside.

Don't think anyone will be out for the Holy Cross game.

I agree with this...as much crap as I'm giving NCC and Brossart in the other thread, both coaches do a great job winning with class. Sometimes these types of games can be just as hard to manage as tight ones...for obvious other reasons.

Coach Nelson from Heritage is a neighbor of mine, and while he knew his team was a huge underdog, he told his girls "just go out and have fun and enjoy the moment". :thumb:
