2014 14th Region All "A" Tournament

Featured Replies

Here we are again, folks, time for the 14th region all “a” classic, which gets underway Monday night with two play-in games. The 14th region doesn’t have a gym just for the all “a” so teams have to treat it lik,e they do a regular season game when they have to go on the road to another opponents gym. The semi’s and finals will be held at Perry County Central High School on Thursday and Saturday.

The Pairings:

Sunday January 12, 2014 (Play-In)

3 PM...Buckhorn at Owsley County (top bracket)

Monday January 13, 2014 (Play-In)

7 PM…Hazard at Wolfe County (bottom bracket)

Tuesday January 14, 2014 (Quarterfinals)

7 PM…Jenkins at Lee County (top bracket)

7 PM…Leslie County at June Buchanan (top bracket)

7 PM…Jackson City at Hazard/Wolfe County Winner (bottom bracket)

7 PM…Cordia at Buckhorn/Owsley County Winner (bottom bracket)

Thursday January 16, 2014 (Semi-Finals)

6 PM…Semi-Finals #1 (top bracket)

8 PM…Semi-Finals #2 (bottom bracket)

Saturday January 18, 2014 (Championship)

6 PM…Championship Game.

Top 10 Player Rankings:

1. Chris Hudson (Hazard)

2. Christen Cunningham (Cordia)

3. Anthony Tagaloa (Cordia)

4. Josh Hollan (Hazard)

5. Connor Hoskins (Buckhorn)

6. Matt Thompson (Hazard)

7. Collier Mobelini (Hazard)

8. Felix Frimpong (Cordia)

9. AJ Chisolm (Cordia)

10. Joey Grove (Buckhorn)

Upset Alert:

Not a whole lot of potential upsets here. Could be maybe three if that.

June Buchanan could beat Leslie County which would be considered an upset being that Leslie County, IMO is the favorite to win that game and being that JBS is only 2-10 and Leslie 5-9.

Wolfe County could upset Hazard. Game being played in Campton, which is a tough place for anyone to go and win and have been red hot lately. Hazard has momentum on their side by winning the WYMT Mountain Classic at Knott County Central this past week, including defeating the home team, Knott Central on a last second shot 48-46 and defeating arch rival, Perry County Central 54-52 in the championship game.

If Buckhorn gets past Owsley County, which IMO, I think they won’t have any trouble in doing so, they could upset Cordia who only defeated Buckhorn 56-52 earlier in the season at Cordia, this game would be at Buckhorn.

My Predictions:

Sunday January 12th:

Buckhorn over Owsley County

Monday January 13th:

Hazard over Wolfe County

Tuesday January 14th:

Lee County over Jenkins (Top Bracket)

Leslie County over June Buchanan (Top Bracket)

Hazard over Jackson City (Bottom Bracket)

Buckhorn over Cordia (Bottom Bracket)

Thursday January 16th:

Leslie County over Lee County

Hazard over Cordia

Saturday January 18th:

Championship Game: Hazard over Leslie County

Word has it Cordia got two new players eligible, Ortiz and big man Chapman. This might change things up again in the 14th region.

Appreciate the heads up. When did word of this come down and is anything official yet?

I'm told both will be making the trip to Buckhorn Tuesday, we shall see then.

Sounds good. May the best team win. No use having the kids who want to be there and have stuck it out sitting on the sidelines watching.

Any word on the status of the Hazard kids? I was told that there was a fair chance that a ruling would come down sometime in mid-January, and we're only a couple of days from there. I'm expecting to hear something any day now.

Maybe a little off-topic, but, what did you think of PCC if you got to see them in the WYMT? I know they were without Beverly, but I'm really interested in following Toomer's development.

I think when PCC gets fully healthy, they'll be TOUGH! Toomer is a player, very good on the ball defender. He isnt a much of a shooter, more of a slasher but a very nice addiction to PCC from what I seen from him in the 3 games of the WYMT. Good to see Tyler Fugate back for the Commodores too, he was out a couple weeks with a fractured forehead.
