Start of the 3rd quarter. Team A has possession to start the quarter. The ref A tells Team B it is their ball and incorrectly gives them the ball. Team B has 6 players on the court also. Coaches for Team A tells ref B it is their ball to start the quarter. Team B inbounds the ball. Ref B stops the game and starts the quarter and correctly gives Team A the ball. Team B gets their 6th player off the court.

 

Should a technical foul been called on Team B for having 6 players on the court?

Did the officials ever notice that 6 were on the floor?

The home(official) scorer had 5 team fouls recorded and the visitor's scorer had 7 team fouls. Officials have to go by the official scorer's book. Once they decided there were only 5 team fouls they counted the free throw since it had been shot and made legally at the time and went to the possession arrow to award possession.

It's not as easy as "fair thing to do."

 

Let's change it. FTs awarded incorrectly to A1. Makes both. B1 throws it inbounds. B2 scores a bucket. A1 throws it into A2 who is now fouled. Books says "oops that's only 6 so we should not have had the previous FTs."

 

By rule it's too late. That unmerited FTs count. There are only certain events that are even correctable and FTs make up the bulk of that list. However, it has to be caught before the ball becomes live after the 2nd dead ball. In my example, the first dead ball was the 2nd made FT and the 2nd dead ball was the basket made by B. Once A then threw it back in (ie made it "live) it's too late to correct those FTs.
