January 8, 201412 yr I can buy Frank Thomas because he had the magical 500+ homeruns. Not absolutely sold on Bagwell however. Are his numbers better than those of Tony Perez who seemed to take way to long to get in the HOF. Why does Alan Trammell not get more votes? Was he not one of the better shortstops of his time outside of Cal Ripken? As to Bagwelll vs. Perez....In a word, yes. More HR, much better BA, more BB, more SB, much higher OBP., much higher OPS+, higher WAR, more All-Star Game appearances, more top 10 MVP finishes, won a GG, etc., etc. That plus the fact that Perez played 8 more seasons than Bagwell, tilts the scales pretty heavily, IMO, in Bagwell's favor.
