Theoldguy
Saying the CovCath Freshmen did very well, is quite the understatement. All and indeed I mean all the points that CovCath put up today were by the Frosh and young Mr. Marshall Hornsby played a mean DB and had a INT besides hitting his PAT's. I however personally what to single out Junior Doug Lonneman, who not only started and was a team Captain today but played in his first game since getting injured in his Freshmen year. Just think mind you of getting hurt in the middle of your Freshmen year and then having other health problems unrelated to football, keeping you from playing for almost two years and then you will understand why Doug was at CovCath this morning clearly 45 minutes before his was required to be there, with the biggest smile/grin on his face. Congrats to all the members of the CovCath JV team, for maybe the Frosh did put up the points on the scoreboard but it was the O-line and the "D" who really won this game and the smile on the face of my guy Doug Lonneman after the game, was worth all the money in the world. Glad to hear Doug played well. Good kid. Dedicated. Can we all agree that I was right in saying you can play JV ball with frosh?
Theoldguy
Glad to hear Doug played well. Good kid. Dedicated. Can we all agree that I was right in saying you can play JV ball with frosh? My own problem with playing Freshmen in and against the JV, are teams playing Juniors Vs. those same Freshmen. Now in saying that I understand no Varsity Coach is going to play a Junior that is or could start on Varsity but never the less, a Junior who could be 17 years old is closer to being a man, than a young Frosh who has just turned 14. The age difference of three years doesn't seem like a lot but for most and I will admit not all Freshmen but most fourteen year old Frosh haven't even come close to full growth and I worry about size, strength and physical differences, between the 17 year old Junior and the 14 year old Freshman playing Vs. each other. Yes Clyde, I will give you the exceptional kid but most kids aren't exceptional and I think it's not in the best interest of the normal Freshmen to put them up against a Junior even if that Junior isn't a starter or regular sub on the Varsity!
