Oldham County 2013/2014

Basketball season for 2013/2014 should provide another exciting year. What should we expect from Oldham County ? Remember, please be constructive.

Oldham Co should be a contender in the 8th again. Coach Coy Zerhusen was Coach Hollands top assistant for the past 4 years and contributed much to the success they've had. OC will play hard under Z ... Their top players will be a very athletic (JR) Conner Hicks who started early last year as a soph. Also (SR) Austin Wills played well in the 8th Region Tourney. Oldham also has a very talented Soph class who will contribute this year.

Oldham may be one of the harder teams to predict pre-season. Coach Coy Zerhusen - who played Oldham in many big games when he played at Scott County under Billy Hicks - will totally change the style of play Oldham has featured under Jason Holland over the past four years. But expect one thing to be similar - Zerhusen won't be outworked by the competition. Oldham looks more athletic, across-the-board, than in recent years, but there's no big man in the middle like Tyler Wesley a couple of years ago. If Austin Perkins can add some finesse to his strength, he figures to be a force down low. Senior forward Austin Wills had a breakout regional tournament last March and could be a primary scorer....the three-guard attack features Conner Hicks, who began last year as the starting PG before a concussion pushed his development back a bit. He's a potent ballhandler, defender, and can score. Jordan Gates was the starting PG on last year's JV squad, and he will be joined in the backcourt by Hayden Hawes (JR), who may wind up as the primary ballhandler. Look for more of an uptempo style this year, taking advantage of the team speed, and look for waves of youth off the bench. The upcoming sophomore class could be extremely good and get lots of playing time before all is said and done.

In the end, however, Oldham's defensive pressure and quickness to mature may determine how far the Colonels go. A 16th regional title is not out of the question.
