Beechwood Tiger Insider - Week Three

Featured Replies

Week Two Recap

A promising start took an ugly turn for the Tigers varsity in last week's game versus the Dixie Heights Colonels. Beechwood jumped out to a 13-0 lead and it looked easy. Then the Colonels decided to go to the old school Woody Hayes 3 yards and a cloud of dust offense. Except it was more like 10 yards and another first down on run after run. The Tigers never found a way to stop the Colonel running game and the end result was a 41-20 loss.

The Beechwood JV got a measure of revenge as they defeated the Colonels 21-6. The passing connection of QB Grant Plageman to WR Clay McHugh worked for 2 TD's, as it did last week versus Simon Kenton, and Casey Erdman added a running TD to key the Tigers win.

It was games versus 6A programs on every level as the Tigers freshman squad traveled to Union for their game versus the Ryle Raiders. The Raiders freshman squad was just too big for the Tigers, hanging a 40-8 loss on the Tigers freshman.

The Week Ahead

The varsity gets a one game break from the run of big school opponents. This week the Tigers play host to 2A Holy Cross. The Tigers are heavy favorites in this one and hope to rebound from the Colonels loss in a big way. Game time, as always at Beechwood, is 7:30.

The JV do not have a game on the schedule and to my knowledge will not be playing this week. Holy Cross does not have a JV team so the JV will get a week off.

The freshman travel to Ft. Thomas to take on the Bluebirds. There are no easy weeks for the freshman squad playing in the big school freshman league. Game time is 6:00 Thursday.

A Beechwood Icon - Mr. Jim

Before the Tigers game last Friday versus Dixie, the 1984 State Championship team was recognized. This was a special team as they were the first Beechwood state champion, blazing the trail for the 10 championships that have followed. As head coach Bernie Barre and other members of the coaching staff were announced, there was one name that was familiar to everyone - Jim Procaccino, known to all in the Beechwood community as Mr. Jim.

Mr. Jim was not only a coach on that 1984 championship team - he has been on the coaching staff for every Beechwood state champion. From Barre to Yeagle to Burnett to Rash, there has been one constant - Mr. Jim has been there with his special brand of enthusiasm and fire. The players love him and he knows his stuff. He has coached numerous position groups over the years and he always gets the job done.

A couple years ago Mr. Jim retired from his elementary teaching position and even took some time off from coaching. But his blood runs Tiger red and he has been back in full force after that brief break. Mr. Jim is one of those personalities that puts a smile on your face and determination in your heart (psycho-cybernetics, right coach?). He may have 11 rings, but no one wants another ring more than him. Keep it going Mr. Jim! The kids and everyone in the Beechwood community love you.

Mr. Jim is THE MAN!! If you don't love that guy, you better look in the mirror and get yourself fixed.

Good read. I hope ya'll have a injury free game.

That was the one good thing about the Dixie game. I don't think there were any injuries.

Mr. Jim is THE MAN!! If you don't love that guy, you better look in the mirror and get yourself fixed.

Couldn't agree more!!!!

Mr Jim was awesome when I was there. As an '83 Grad I loved going to the All star game several months ago that took place at Dixie and see that Mr. Jim was part of the coaching staff. I got to talk to a couple of the Cooper players playing in that game and tell them how special it was for them to have Mr Jim on that squad.

What a great guy on and off the field. He was also one of the funnest teachers you could have. Love seeing him out there still after all these years. I wish I was at the game to see the guys all together again. 3 guys that stood out the most to me on the old coaching staff back in teh day were Barre, Grippa and Mr Jim!

Hellbird ... the reports I heard from players at the All Star game were that they loved playing for Mr. Jim. He is just a great guy and a great coach.
