All winning streaks start with breaking a losing streak

Featured Replies

The past fourteen games have been tough ones for the Estill County Engineers as they lost 14 straight games. This past Friday that streak came to an end as the Engineers defeated visiting Jackson County 36-0 at Hoover Niece Field in Estill County.

Estill County won the coin toss and elected to receive, they took scored on the opening drive on a 2 yard touchdown run by junior running back Jonathan Collins and never looked back. The score would stay 7-0 going into the second quarter where Estill added 16 more points to go up 23-0 at halftime.

Estill County would add another touchdown in the third quarter on a 73 yard touchdown pass from quarterback Trevor Jones to tight end Kris Dennis.

Estill County’s defense was stellar, not allowing Jackson County but three times cross over into Engineer territory the rest of the night Jackson County never crossed midfield, that’s coming from a defense that has allowed 18.3 points a game.

The Engineers players and coaches seem pretty happy that they finally ended the 14 game losing streak and started a winning streak of their own. They hope to continue to be on the winning side of ways this Friday as they travel to Saylersville to take on the Hornets of Magoffin County. With the win over Jackson County the Engineers improve to 1-2 on the season. The loss sends Jackson County to 1-3 on the season and the Generals will host Berea this Friday in the Battle of Big Hill Bowl presented by PRTC. Both game times are set for 7:30 PM.

After playing three home games so far the Engineers will have just two more home games, October 4th the Engineers will be hosting the ever dangerous Bourbon County Colonels on homecoming night, who are coming off a big win at Breathitt County 55-14 and Garrard County on October 25th on senior night. Garrard County defeated Estill County 59-6 last season over in Lancaster.

After the first two games on the season, the Engineers remaining schedule will lighten up a bit. Estill County will be on the road for the next three games, traveling to Magoffin County this Friday, traveling to Owingsville to take on Bath County next Friday, then two weeks from this Friday, September 27th the Engineers will be traveling down the road to Stanton to take on arch rival, Powell County, all game times are 7:30 PM.

With the improvement of the Engineer defense, the Engineers have something else that will be getting improved in two years. The Engineers are getting a new turf field to replace the grass field that they currently play on, new bleachers for both home and visitors, home bleachers is suppose to be moving to the road side, currently where the visitors sit with the visitors going over to the other side of the field where Estill sits, a new scoreboard and possibly a new press box (if they do infact move to the other side of the field.

Congrats Estill!
