Madison Central Indians

Head Coach – Bert Browne (4th season head coach)

2012: 7-5, Lost to Trinity in second round of playoffs

Overview

You really hate to use the words ‘rebuilding year’ when talking about a high school football team. But anyway you slice it that is what the 2013 season is for the Madison Central Indians – at least on the offensive side of the ball. Gone is Quarterback and 2nd leading rusher Hunter Stocker. Also gone is speedy and very talented Dominique Hawkins (Mr. Basketball last season if anyone missed that) who had 1,110 yards rushing last year. Last years leading receiver (1,223 yards) and third leading rusher (135 yards total season yards) Ken jah Bosley is also gone.

The Indians do have 11 seniors this year but most did not see much playing time last year due to the very talent squad a year ahead of them. In an interview on Madison County School TV coach Bert Browne indicated he would be starting several sophomores on both sides of the ball – and maybe even a few freshmen. Coach Browne knows it will a year of challenges. But out of challenges he may be able to develop his young quickly. It is certain that this team will be measure by how it is doing at the end of the season and not the beginning or middle.

Schedule

Madison Central plays in the 8th district of class 6A. Along with Madison Central this district includes Tates Creek, Lafayette and George Rogers Clark. These teams make up the back end of tough schedule that opens with Harlan County in the Roy Kidd Bowl on August 24th. In between the Indians play Woodford County, Madison Southern, Scott County, Lexington Catholic, PLD and Henry Clay. Scott County and Lexington Catholic are back to back on September 13th and 20th. If this young team can come out of these games in a strong manner it may make give them something to build upon gong into the key district games.

Outlook

The Indians will have a lot of youth on the field this year. The quarterback slot is open and Coach Browne indicated it will likely be filled by one of two sophomores Aaron Stone or Cameron Thomas or even a freshmen. The offensive skill positions are a complete re-build this year. Even though the stat leaders from last year on the defensive side have also graduated Coach Browne is looking for it to be strong this year. Hopefully the defense can keep the games low scoring events until the offense finds its legs and passing game.

Is there any heat on Browne..?

Wow only 11 seniors at a school that size. Something must be wrong.

Hopefully the older players can show more than they have up to now, and the younger players learn from that.

Good luck.
