Former Lee County, Montgomery County and Wolfe County head coach, Gene Combs is the new head baseball coach at Estill County.

 

 

This was a really quick hire as the position came open at the end of last week/beginning of this week

 

 

Gene is gonna have one of the best teams in region next year. Now wait to see who all he brings on for his staff.

Gene coached at Lee County for 18 years (1988-2006). Coached at Montgomery County for 5 years (2007-2012) and coached at Wolfe County for 1 year (2013). Since 2012 Coach Combs has a record of 168-147-1 and has won multiple district and region titles at Lee County.

 

I'll do some more research and see if I can get his record at Lee County.

You do realize during his tenure at Lee County, Coach Combs won multiple district and region titles, right? Also the 14th is not as hard as the 10th (Bourbon, Harrison, GRC, on and on). It would not surprise me one bit if Coach Combs has Estill playing for a region title next year. He's is inheriting a heck of a team.

I guess that the rest of the high schools baseball coaches feel different since he was inducted to the Kentucky High School Baseball Coaches Hall of Fame this past February. I do not think "mediocre" gets in the hall of fame!

C'mon man, you're really getting out of your depth here. I guess your mind would be completely blown if you knew about some the offers he turned down after MoCo. Also, literally none of the coaches on that list are mediocre, LOL.

And you saying you could start as a 6th grader on his teams only further proves how good of a coach he is. If he achieved the record he has with a talent pool so scarce that a 6th grader would start, regardless of how good that 6th grader is, he really is a heck of coach... Think about it.
