"Redskins" has always been derogatory. Americans just haven't cared and generally speaking native american's don't want to get caught up in U.S. politics. How many reservations have you visited? The fact that you would be treated more harshly for using the N-word in one environment and the R-word in another is certainly not a reflection of dehumanizing affect of the word.

 

 

Never said it hasn't been. I made a reference saying the N-word was more deragotory and you challenged that. Take a poll and see what John Q Public says about which word is more deragotory since you don't believe me. The N-word is way more inflammatory and the fact that Redskins is still a mascot name in 2013 tells me so. When the Detroit N-words debuts in the NBA you may have a better argument.

 

I've been to zero reservations and if I ever make it to one it likely won't be to learn about the culture but I would be donating to the cause.

This is a case of history repeats itself. Our past american relatives, physically drove these people almost to extinction (the actual Braves, Cherokees, Seminoles, Indians, Redskins etc.) Now we as Americans today are driving to make sure there names are never spoke and they are forgotten about. Makes sense, it's the american way.
