The Billy Matteoli/Kirsten Allen years at Ryle were 2005-08...Certainly, most on here remember Kirsten...she still holds the state record for most wins. I can remember she would pitch every single game...pretty much threw her arm off. Seems she got to Oklahoma and didn't do much, injuries, etc. Oliverio came to Ryle in 2009 if memory serves me correctly. During her short tenure she was able to maintain Ryle's dominance but one has to wonder if their early exit from post season play this season was just a glimpse at what was coming.

 

I am no Dr or pitching coach but I doubt her throwing every game in HS was the cause of her throwing her arm off. You might play 40 games if your lucky over 90 plus days. Most elite type pitchers usually throw every game for their HS. With that being said I am sure Ryle could have had another pitcher to try and pitch some of their lower level games, but I am sure they played a great schedule when Allen was there.

 

Now if she was pitching every game for her summer team that could be a little different, temps usually much higher and may throw 50 games over a 60 day span where she is only really playing on about 24 of those days.

Plus she throws it 10 mph faster, when you top out at 72-73 mph you're getting the starting nod everytime. As far as NKY softball goes, Kirsten Allen is the best bar none.

Ryle was winning 1-0 and Conner scored 3 runs in top of 7th to go up 3-1

Did I hear right that both teams had bases loaded in the 6th with no outs and both failed to score?

 

Sounds like this would have been one fun game to be at.

 

Congrats to Conner for making the regions and more so congrats to Ryle's seniors (if they have any?) on a great run the last couple of years.

Conner may go from dead to being the second favorite to win the region. Simms is for sure good enough to shut down any offense in the 9th.

If indeed it took a perfect throw to get the runner at home then I'm cool with sending her. At the high school level the chance of being a perfect throw is small.

I asked Iris because you said the coach "had" to send the runner to try to tie the game. My point is, he did not have to send her. Was that the best choice? Possibly. Would I want to be in that position? Probably not. When you use definitive verbiage, makes little room for thinking the coach may have ran all scenarios through before he sent runner. Certainly he was FULLY up on the Conner girls ball experience right? The fact that Brooke and Lexi (2 girls involved in this perfect play) both have played several years of travel softball would have certainly lent a hand in whether a green light was given to send the runner or not.

 

You never answered who the next batter was.....
