The Breds out hit Simon Kenton 4-3, but fail to dent the scoreboard tonight at Bartlett Field in Newport. 8th grader Haley Meyers gets her career 1st varsity start for the Breds in the place of Sarah Neace, who sustained a concussion last wednesday at Beechwood after being hit on a comebacker, and is out a least a week.

 

Simon Kenton scores 2 in the 3rd, with one out Jamie Draud drops a double on the right field line on a 0-2 pitch. Erica Lang draws a walk, a wild pitch moves both runners up and then another wild pitch scores Draud and Land to 3rd. Kennedy Baugh draws a walk and then two pitches later NewCath catcher Kristen Schreiber tries to pickoff Lang at 3rd, but her throw is wide and goes into leftfield scoring Land. The Pioneers plate their final run in the 5th, also on a wild pitch. Meyers induces Land and Baugh into consecutive groundouts, then Hannah Perry laces a single to center. Meyers walks the next batter and two consecutive wild pitches scores Perry.

 

Meyers, who was quite a bit nervous in her 1st career start, faces one batter in the 5th and is replaced by Taylor Burkart.

 

For the Breds, in the 1st with one out, Casey Kohls doubles to the rightcenter gap but is stranded. In the 3rd with one out Michaela Ware reaches on an error, steals 2nd, & moves to 3rd on a dropped 3rd strike, but is stranded. In the 5th sr. Christina Enzweiler leads the inning off with a single and moves to 2nd on a passed ball, but is stranded. Finally in the 7th a one out single of the bat of fr. Alexa Kehoe goes for not.

She did a fine job, although she struggles with her control at times. However, it's more about her dealing with, playing with and against older girls than anything else. She needs to learn to just have fun when she's out there, the kid as loads of potential.
