Tonight at Beechwood the Breds get the best of the Tigers in a game that had a little bit of everything in it, among other things: Pitcher taking a shot to the face, rightfielder throwing out runner at 1st, & a two homer (over the fence) game from one player.

 

NewCath 1st vs Beechwoods Allison Fangman.

After a leadoff single from So. Michaela Ware, So. Casey Kohls drops a bunt down for a base hit. So. Loren Zimmerman moves the runners over with a groundout to the 2nd baseman, then So. Kristen Schreiber grounds out to the pitcher, but Ware scores on the throw to 1st, Jr. Taylor Burkart ends the inning with another comebacker to the mound.

 

Beechwood 1st vs NewCaths Sarah Neace.

After a one out single by Lauren Ruedeubusch, Neace walks the bases loaded, then Alli Berger grounds one past Burkart at 1st, however Kohls is backing her up and is able to make it to 1st for the out, but a run scores, the next batter flys out to center and we are knotted at 1.

 

NewCath 2nd.....1,2,3.

 

Beechwood 2nd

Katherine Kremer leads the inning off with a "frozen rope" that hits off Zimmerman's glove at 3rd, but Ware is backing her up and makes the catch. The next batter K's and then comes the scary moment. The next batter Sierra Whitfield sends a "screamer" that Breds pitcher Sarah Neace gets a little glove on but takes a shot to the side of the face and goes down on the turf. So with 2-out and one on in comes Taylor Burkart, and she is greeted with a shot to right by Stacey Rengering, however Breds rightfielder Jr. Molly Mertle fires a seed to 1st to get Rengering by a hair.

 

NewCath 3rd.... Kohls single,1,2,3.

 

Beechwood 3rd

The Tigers get 3 runs on 2 walks, 2 errors, & their only hit the rest of the game to take a 4-1 advantage.

 

NewCath 4th....BB,1,2,3.

 

Beechwood 4th....1,2,3.

 

NewCath 5th....Mertle single,1,2,3.

 

Beechwood 5th....BB,1,2,3.

 

NewCath 6th

Zimmerman leads off the inning with a double to rightcenter, then So. Kristen Schreiber launches one over the fence for a 2-run shot. One out later So. Morgan Martini hits atriple down the line in right and scores on a infield single by Mertle and the score is tied.

 

Beechwood 6th....E,1,2,3.

 

NewCath 7th

Ware leads off with single, steals 2nd and moves to 3rd as the ball gets away from the 2nd baseman. One out later, Ware scores on a groundout by Zimmerman and then Schreiber comes up and "sends another one into orbit" for her 2nd one over the fence and the Breds take a 6-4 lead.

 

Beechwood 7th....1,2,E,3. Ballgame.

My thoughts exactly. It is good to hear that she is doing fine. Is it a possibility that they make protective gear mandatory for pitchers? I am sure most parents would prefer their dd wear protective gear if they pitch or even play 3rd base.
