I don't know how long you have followed UK Football,but from the 35+ years that I have been a part of it there has never been any continued success.Take Fran Curci,in his fourth year as HC he went 8-4,Peach Bowl win and finished 18th in the country.

The next season the cats went 10-1,6-0 in the SEC and finished 6th in the country.

His next four years UK failed to have a winning record.

 

So I don't care what kind of situation Joker inherited,because there is a real good chance that whoever had of been coaching at UK the last three seasons would have probably had about the same results as Joker.

I have no problem with Joker getting fired,but to say he is a terrible coach is insane...

 

I just hope that Stoops can turn UK football into a consistent winner.So far no coach at UK has done that since Bear Bryant...:thumb:

I think Fran cheated a little bit to get that 10-1 record. I agree, though, the Joker had to go----not a good head coach.

Yep that is true...And when Joker took over the program,UK was starting to fall back into the same old same old cycle.6-5 record and a bowl loss.Rich Brooks saw the writing on the wall and got out before it got worse.

I just think its crazy for anyone to think that Joker destroyed UK football when it's been broke for 50 years...

 

Bill Curry came to Kentucky from Alabama in 1990.His last season with the tide he went 10-2,Sugar Bowl Loss and finished 9th in the country...Seven seasons at UK with seven losing seasons,he did go 6-6 one year.

 

I guess when Bill Curry took over after Jerry Claiborne's 6-5 last season the cats must have been on probation?

 

I really do hope that Stoops is the Messiah of UK Football,but I'm not going to bet the farm on it...Even if I owned a farm...:thumb:

 

Joker didn't destroy it, but he had a good opportunity to change things and failed. Trying to say "well Brooks did bad at first too!" is idiotic when you look at the difference in circumstances.

 

Nobody is expecting (or expected of Joker) to be contending for the title game (anytime soon at least). Look at the schedule thread and you'll see most people predicting a 4-5 season next year and being totally fine with that.

 

Just because UK football hasn't been good in a while, doesn't mean fans should just throw in the towel and accept failure. It IS possible to change things, and that should be UK's goal, and fans have every right to expect progress towards that goal.

From the post you were quoting me from,I was talking about Brooks last season...6-5 with a bowl loss...The cycle was moving back down again!

 

I can remember most UK fans wanting to run Rich Brooks out of town after his third season...And if Stoops doesn't turn the corner in a couple of years things will start to get ugly fast for him as well!

 

Saying that "UK football hasn't been good in a while" is a understatement...Unless of course playing in the Music City bowl or the Liberty bowl a few years straight is considered good.

UK football reminds me of playing the lottery,it's always fun and exciting when you have a ticket,until the numbers come in.Every once in a while you might hit a few numbers and win a free ticket.
