GRC short handed tonight. Starter Maddie Hamlin was out with a broken finger. Anderson with a concussion, and Terrell with the Flu.

Really proud of the Cards and the way they battled tonight. GRC only led once in the game at 14-13. There were 6 ties, 2 lead changes and Campbell lead by as much as 10 points during the game.

Only Senior GRC has is Murphy. I have really enjoyed watching her play this year. Best of luck in the future Kathlene!!!!!

Skinner is going to be scary good next couple of years! Scratch that, she's already scary good, she's going to be REALLY scary good!

Great Volley ball player too.

This was a fun game to watch. Up and down the floor and every girl,on both teams, just flat busting their tails. Robinsons speed and defense is amazing and Skinner was an absolute workhorse in the paint. It reminded me of two heavy weights standing in the middle of the ring just throwing hay makers at each other. I said in the predication thread that these two teams were evenly matched and it would come down to free throws and who's in foul trouble and the Camels shot 81% from the line and Skinner was in foul trouble in the first half. Great job to both teams I got my money's worth tonight. Great year GRC they will be very strong next year. Keep rolling Camels. Here's the stats I got:

Camels:

Robinson 13 pts, 2 rbd, 4 ast, 6 st

Siegmundt 4 pts, 6 rbd

Gray 7 pts, 5 rbd

Kramer 5 pts, 5 rbd

Kitchen 10 pts (8/8 FT) 2 rbd

40% FG, 81% FT

GRC:

Graham 5 pts, 5 rbds, 3 st

Taylor 11 pts, 4 rbd, 3 st

Skinner 23 pts, 8 rbds

Murphy 2 pts, 2 rbd

33% FG, 72% FT

Should be a fun game Monday as Nicholas County had a huge crowd there tonight.

Both teams great FT shooting........Nice to see that once in awhile.............

Lady Cards' rally falls short in loss to Campbell County

CARLISLE — The George Rogers Clark girls basketball didn't let a depleted roster or a double-digit deficit in the second half discourage them from putting up a serious fight in their quest for survival during the opening round of the 10th Region Tournament Thursday night at Nicholas County High School.

The Lady Cards were without three players, including starter Maddie Hamlin and reserve Sydney Anderson. Lauren Welsch and Meg Terrell also sat out the contestlb_icon1.png because of illness. Hamlin broke her pinky finger in practice and Anderson suffered a concussion in the Lady Cardinals loss to Montgomery County in last week's 40th District finals.

Clark coach Robbie Graham said his plan in the final seconds was to get an open look from the perimeter or in the post.

“We really wanted the best available (shot),” he said. “We didn't play for two or three. In that situation, we just wanted to get the best shot. If it's a two we'll take it, if it's a three we'll take it. We couldn't get the look and it didn't bounce the way we wanted it to bounce.”

Campbell County coach Mike Murray, a former assistant coach at Clark, was expecting the Lady Cards to launch a shot from the perimeter on their final possession.

Sandra Skinner led Clark with 12 points and scored 10 of those in the first quarter. Campbell scored eight of the first 10 points and led 8-2 with 4:25 remaining in the first frame. Skinner connected on three of Clark's last four field goals and connected on four free throws in the final four minutes of the quarter to give Clark a 14-13 advantage.

The Lady Camels pushed the margin to 10 twice in the third frame and led 38-31 going into the final eight minutes. Skinner tallied eight of her team's 11 points in the quarter and led all scorers with 23 points.

“She's a handful and we were fortunate to get by tonight,” Murray said.

Robinson paced Campbell with 11 points in the first two quarters and scored nine of those in the first eight minutes. Robinson paced her team in scoring with 14 points.
