Powell County @ Estill County February 21st

56th District Championship. Estill County High School.

 

Estill won both regular season games against Powell. Estill won at home 54-51 and won @ Powell 47-43, was 47-40 until Marcum hit a 3 at the buzzer. It's very very tough to beat a team 3 times during a season. Both teams played extremely good in the first round games of the district tournament.

 

 

Keys to the game:

- Estill County: Morris and Baber both have to get going, 3's and and1's are gonna have to be made. Morris has been playing some very good ball as of late. 38 vs. Buckhorn, 23 vs. Harrison & Madison Southern, 2 vs. Model and 20 vs. Lee. Estill didn't hit a single 3 or an and1 against Lee. Bench is gonna have to play really good when they come in. They may not get to play since Estill only played 6 against Lee. MUST CONTAIN MARCUM.

 

- Powell County: Goodwin has to get going on the inside. Marcum needs to get his outside shots going. Hubbard and Mullins both have to play really well. I can't give you all any stats from the past few games for Powell because Coach Hall hasn't updated them on KHSAA.

I know Estill would love to beat Powell since Powell beat Estill last year for the title at their place.

 

 

This is going to be a war inside a packed house!!! These two schools will meet Friday in girls action.

Estill plays really well at home but Powell has beaten Estill @ Estill before. Estill is 8-5 @ home while Powell County is 2-9 away, Not counting tourneys. I'll take the Engineers at home. 53-49

since joining the 56th district/14th region, Estill has actually defeated Powell 3 times when they've met 3 times in a regular season. 05/06, 07/08, 08/09. Powell has defeated Estill 1 time, when they've met 3 times in the regular season, that was back in 06/07.

Estill should win. I'm guessing 57-52. They'll have to contain Marcum. Owsley actually did a good job on him with the exception of his shooting quite a few free throws. He usually does his damage from 3 point range. I don't think Powell has anyone that can keep Morris from getting his points. But he will have to play under control and not get in foul trouble. He sometimes gets a little out of control with his play. They need a good game from him and some good outside shooting from Baber to loosen up the inside game.
