Second Region Top 10

 

1. Hopkinsville (21-4) - The Tigers have won 13 straight games and have a 10-0 record inside the region. Closest region game has been a six point win over Henderson County in December.

2. Henderson County (20-3) - Colonels have won 13 of 14 games, only losing to Collins last week 37-34.

3. Webster County (15-9) - The Trojans have won five of six, only losing to UHA in the All-A finals last week.

4. University Heights (9-11) - The Blazers put up a spirited effort in a nine-point loss to Hopkinsville Thursday. UHA is 7-2 after a 2-9 start.

5. Madisonville (13-10) - The Maroons have beaten the teams they should have in the past month and lost to some heavyweights.

6. Trigg County (13-7) - The Wildcats have won four straight, including wins over Christian County and Caldwell County.

7. Christian County (10-12) - The Colonels have lost six of seven games and have surrendered 70+ points in seven of their last nine games.

8. Union County (14-9) - Four of the Braves' nine losses have come to Henderson County and Webster County

9. Lyon County (13-11) - The Lyons are hot and cold, which keeps them from moving up in the rankings.

10. Caldwell County (8-16) - The Tigers blew a game to Trigg County and had Hoptown on the ropes for a while in the past week.

 

 

 

Player of the Week

Trigg County's Deonquez Nance scored a career-high 42 points in Trigg County's 62-61 win over Caldwell County Monday. The senior guard scored a school-record 22 points in the fourth quarter, incuding Trigg's final 14 points. He also had 32 of Trigg's 39 second half points, putting him over 1,700 for his career.

 

Mumford and Guns

UHA guard Darius Mumford scored 21 points and pulled down 15 rebounds in the Blazers' 75-61 district win over Fort Campbell Friday.

 

Late Bloomers

Webster County hit nine of their final 10 free throws and outscored Union County 10-2 over the final 90 seconds to get a 52-49 district win over the Braves Friday. Webster plays Henderson County for the top seed in the Sixth District Friday.

 

Paying Tribute

Even though they are fierce rivals, Hopkinsville donned black socks Thursday in their game with UHA to pay tribute to Blazer coach Grant Shouse, whose father died earlier in the week. Richard Shouse was a fixture at UHA games and even made the trek to Frankfort for the State All-A Classic.

Caldwell County's Eli Pepper pulled down 22 rebounds in Caldwell County's 62-61 loss to Trigg County last Monday

 

A Falcon First?

Fort Campbell's Trevon Thompson is second in the state in field goal shooting, connecting on 67.6% of his shots (46 of 68). No Falcon basketball player has ever led the state in any individual statistical category.

 

A Rare Feat

Trigg County's 82-77 win at Christian County last week was just their third win there in 24 career games at Colonel Gym. The other wins at Christian County came in 1974 and 1998. Christian County still leads the all-time series 43-7.

 

Games to Watch

Monday - Trigg County at Hopkinsville - Hopkinsville has won 15 of the last 16 meetings with their border opponent, with the game featuring two of the region's best players in Jordan Majors (HHS) and Deonquez Nance (TCHS).

 

Tuesday - Madisonville at Webster County - These schools are separated by just a few miles on U.S. 41 and could be a preview of a later game in the region tournament

 

Friday - Webster County at Henderson County - First place in the Sixth District and an automatic trip to the region tournament is on the line in this one.
