Coach Mac has a 5 million dollar buy out clause so he won't be go anywhere. I also beg to differ the Mac & Sunbelt are not on the level of the Mountian west Confence. The attendence ,Staduim sizes and Coaches salaries tell you that which BTW Coach Mac is getting 1.6 million anaully.

 

1) $5mill buyout was probably just this first year. It will likely lessen with each year he coaches (like most all coaches, see Coach Strong's here of late). Even still, you are talking about a guy that has roots in the SEC as National Championship O.C, 5 mill or less is chump change for most SEC and Big 12 schools to buy out. Auburn, Alabama, Florida, LSU, Oklahoma, Texas, etc. likely profit that much in one home game. To be fair, it's probably just a shade under that (90,000 seat stadium x $50 average seat = $4,500,000).

 

2) Colorado State's stadium holds 30K or maybe a shade over. Quite honestly, those between 25K-50K seating capacities are all the same to me. I'd like to know the Mountain West's Bowl record compared to the MAC and Sun Belt? (I might google that right now)

 

3)$1.6 mill a year is play money compared to what a Big 12, SEC and some ACC and Big East schools can pay.

 

Also, another important factor than many 18 year old young men don't consider when making this choice is; where do you want to live? What career path are they looking at? Fact is, most schools will take care of their own. Why do you see many UK football and basketball athletes who NEVER play a minute or snap stick around? It's because they are likely thinking about life after college. I heard a wiseman say once upon a time that "choosing a college is a 4 year decision for the next 40 years of your life." If getting a Business Administration degree is what a young man wants, and he has no desire to live outside of Kentucky after college, then I'd be considering a KY D1 football offer. If living around the country having a business degree under ones belt is in the sights; then where you go to school might not matter much (unless there is a particular school offers interested majors and they are one of the bests).

 

Again, I am not in anyway trying to rain on anybody's parade. There isnt a bigger fan of KY HS kids going on and playing collegiate football, at any level, but especially the D1 level. I've just seen many a player get swayed into a place bc of the "Honeymoon" pitch they get from the current head coach (especially at a stepping stone type job); so, all I'm saying is pick the school b/c you like the school and it's program (be it where it's at now, it's history, etc). College coaching is a Rat Race and Dog Eat Dog World if there ever were any. Coach Mac and that RB coach/OC could be (and likely will be) here today and gone tomorrow.

 

Best of luck to the young man because he is without a doubt one of the most special players I've ever seen that have graced the Commonwealth. And, I mean that with every ounce of sincerity.
