56th District Tournament will be held at Estill County High School. Tournament will be the week of February 18-23.

(1) Estill County (4-0) ;; 2 District games left; vs. Lee county 1/29 ;; @ Owsley County 2/1

(2) Lee County (3-2) ;; 1 District game left; @ Estill County 1/29

(3) Owsley County (2-2) ;; 2 District games left; vs. Powell County 1/29 ;; vs. Estill County 2/1

(4) Powell County** (0-5) ;; 1 District game left; @ Owsley County 1/29

 

1 Seed lockdown ;; Estill needs to win 1 of the 2 district games remaining to lock down the 1 seed. If Estill defeats Lee on Tuesday then the district tournament will be set.

 

2 way tie (Coin flip) ;; If Lee defeats Estill by 6+, Powell defeats Owsley and Owsley defeats Estill then the 1 seed will come down to a coin flip between Estill and Lee.

 

3 way tie ;; If Lee County defeats Estill by 6+ and Owsley County defeats Estill by 5+ then it will come down to a 3-way tie, how that would work I have no idea

Actually Powell doesn't even have to play Owsley because regardless of the outcome of that game they can't get out of the 4 seed....If some how Powell defeats Owsley then Owsley will be a lock at the 3 seed no matter what happens with the remaining games.

 

 

 

I don't know for sure but I think the district tournament will be like last year. 1 & 4 seeds playing on Monday (Boys and Girls). Girls at 6 and Boys at 8....followed by the 2 & 3 seeds on Tuesday (Girls at 6 and Boys at 8) then on Thursday would be the Girls championship game and the boys championship game on Friday.

 

 

 

Next week should be a very exciting/nervous week for the teams/fans/coaches in the 56th district.

There's not much difference in the 56th teams this year. It's as even as I've ever seen it. Powell is 0-5 but most of those losses are by 2 -5 points. All the season district games have been close. Seeding doesn't really mean a whole lot this year.

Was you on the Estill bench tonight? I should came over and introduced myself.

Yes sitting right beside Bentley. I was the one in the blue Estill shirt with Blue pants. I had the blue bag on my shoulder going into the locker room at the end of 3 of the girls game.

 

I heard (Just speculation) that Coach Wright at Lee County is thinking about hanging it up after the season. Lee loses about 75-80% of their scoring this year.

I haven't heard anything about Coach Wright. I think he's been there about 10 or 11 years.

I won't say who told me but that's what I was told at tonight's game but this speculation gets brought up every year. I know their was a lot of people saying (Before Estill hired Bentley) that Danny Wright was seen talking to the Estill administration..

Just got a text from one of the coaches at the meeting.
