Wayne County 71 Oxford(AL) 62

Recommended Posts

Good ball game between two good teams. Wayne had won earlier in the day and it seemed like they were a little tired, maybe a step slow. The Cardinals were able to keep Oxford at bay, withstanding several runs, and clinched the game at the foul line late. Freshman Corey Stearns had a terrific all around game, scoring 23 points and pulling down double-figure rebounds. Sophomore Peyton Woods had 29 points as well.

Oxford was led by guard Justin Lawler's 30 points. Lawler connected from three-point range several times, including a couple from beyond NBA range. Mississippi State football signee Ulric Jones (6'6, 270) was strong on the glass and finished with 7 points, but was hampered by foul trouble late.

Wayne County moves into the semifinals Friday night where they will play Garrard County at 8:30. Oxford falls into the consolation bracket and will face Monticello at 5:30.
