James Johnson finished with 21 carries for 111 yards and 2 touchdowns for Mercer.

 

Darion Lewis had 17 carries for 84 yards for Mercer.

 

Kyle Bolin was 18-28 for 283 yards and 2 tds and 2 ints.

 

As a team LexCath ran 27 times for 151 yards.

 

David Bouvier had 9 receptions for 144 yards.

Lewis and Johnson and Mercer OC did a great job for Mercer. They stayed mainly on the ground as expected but they mixed the plays up very well. And ran some good fakes. Burned the aggressive Knight defense in the first half for some good gains and a long TD.

 

Knights defense tightened up second half. MLB Josh Mesmer had 11 solos for the game indicating how much Mercer was utilizing the ground game. Kersey had another good night on D. But he is also kicking balls well into the end zone.

 

Knight offense needs to come of the gate a lot better when Boyle comes to town next week. Bolin was off tonight. Fumbles. Not sharp, especially early on.

 

I think PP thinks the Knights were sandbaggin' for the game tape this week for Boyle but the Knight have not come out of the gate well in any game except Male.

 

Mercer deserves credit they were the aggressors early on and forced errors and did not back down.

I am looking forward to the game next week for sure. I told my buddy LexCath would score 3 tds in the 4th quarter. I'm not going to say LexCath was sandbagging.......naw...they were sandbagging.

 

If history repeats itself I expect next week's Boyle game to be highly anticipated and boring, vanilla and low scoring. The regular season game never lives up to the hype. The playoff game....HYPE!!!!

 

This was a huge building block for Mercer. While I do feel LexCath held back as much as they needed to this game was huge for Mercer's confidence despite the loss. They hear that they can't hang with LexCath but went into the 4th with a lead on them. Mercer is young. I look forward to seeing the lessons learned tonight applied in the future.

Down 14-7 at halftime and 16-14 entering the fourth, sixth-ranked Lexington Catholic (5-1) exploded for 20 points and held Mercer County (2-3) scoreless in the final quarter, and won its first district game 34-16 Friday night in Harrodsburg.James Johnson dominated the first half for the Titans at home, rushing for two TDs, including a 51-yard run in the first quarter. Casey Nash caught a 41-yard pass from Kyle Bolin, a Louisville commit, for the only Knights score before the break.Amoh Kumengisa tied the game on a 7-yard TD rush at the 11:07 mark in the third quarter. Kumengisa added a 4-yard touchdown, giving the Knights a lead for the first time. Bolin would put more distance between his team and the Titans with a 7-yard TD pass to Anthony Kersey, giving the Knights a 27-16 lead after the PAT. Kumengisa rushed for a 10-yard TD, his third score of the game, with 3:42 to play to put the game out of reach for Mercer.Kumengisa finished with 64 yards on seven carries. Bolin went 17-for-27 for 288 yards and two TDs, but threw two picks.

One reason for the Knights early O struggles was they were without 2 starting linemen. Senior Ridge Jackson is likely lost to the season after x-rays determined problems with a foot that has had surgery. Ridge was an FBU Middle School All-American when playing at Woodford County. He will be missed in the lineup as a senior leader on the line.

Kersey has also picked up kicking duties since Jacoby was injured. He is putting about 75% of his kickoffs into the end zone.
