Belfry 48 Pikeville 0

Featured Replies

I see the P-Ville defense was its usual self in this one.

Congrats to Belfry on another easy win in this once competitive series.

Pikeville played Belfry pretty tough through the entire first quarter and most of the 2nd. They moved the ball pretty well and their defense played well. After their first drive stalled they punted to the Belfry 1 yd line. Belfry backup quarterback (who played a fantastic game) ran a sneak on the 2nd play from scrimmage the Panthers caused a fumble and had the ball on the 5 going in. A couple of plays later, the Panthers fumbled the ball right on the goal line into the end zone where Belfry recovered for a touchback. I really thought Pikeville was going to take the lead there.

The Panthers are getting better and you can see an improvement from the first game of the year. They will be tough in their district, even though they arey young. Estep and Hall are fantastic backs and they play hard.

Keaton Taylor played a fantastic game filling in at QB for the first time. He ran the option well and scored 4 touchdowns I think. Austin Hatfield also played very well on both sides of the ball. He filled in on the DL and he played the majority of the game at FB. He broke a lot of tackles and scored 2 or 3 touchdowns of his own. Both these guys are sophomores and it is good to see the underclassmen being ready to step up and play when they are needed. Lots of credit for that goes to the OL, they controlled the LOS all night.

Belfry had several interceptions in the game, Josh Robinson had 3 or 4 plus there was at least one more. All of them were on deep balls, but Pikeville's QB did a nice job on the shorter passes, especially in the first half.

Overall it was an overpowering game by Belfry, but Pikeville was in this game the first half. Belfry has an obvious depth advantage because they have more than double the number of players, but it was not the type of domination the Pirates have enjoyed over the Panthers the last couple of years. Pikeville is improving and it is good to see.
