FANOFTHE11th Posted January 9, 2006 Posted January 9, 2006 Who are freshman to watch in next three years? Nick Hudson is making an impact for Dunbar right now. He is a physically mature freshman that is athletic with good basketball skills. Cameron Mattingly for Woodford has recently been getting Varsity minutes. Comes from good basketball family as his older sister was a fine player. Taylor Botkin from Lexington Catholic has recently gotten Varsity minutes. I hear he did a nice job against Scott County in a backup point gaurd role. Botkin (freshman) and Stewart (sophomore) will be a tough combination in the upcoming years. These names sound familiar. I remember a Botkin/Stewart combination in 1977 that won the 11th region. I wonder if there is any relation and will history repeat itself? Madison Central has some nice freshmen? Who are these kids? Has any freshman team in the 11th come close to them this year? What about Scott County? I'm sure they have a nice crop of freshmen.

The Lex Cath future looks bright!
thepeopleschamp Posted January 9, 2006 Posted January 9, 2006 Nick Hudson has all the talent in the world and is a fine player, however he sems to get down on himself at times, like in the Pendleton Co. game when he struggled. I expect that to change as he continues to grow and mature as both a player and a person.
Your Daddy Posted January 9, 2006 Posted January 9, 2006 Franklin County has a great group of freshmen this year. Barrett Meyer is dressing varsity, Oakley Watkins and Pat Brown are playing freshmen and JV, and Ryan Conner and Deron Hicks are some great athletes. Hicks just came back from a serious football injury suffered back in July, or he would be playing JV or varsity as well. They should have a solid team for several years to come. Darius Reed at Western Hills is a kid with some great potential as well. He is playing with the freshmen, JV, and Varsity teams as well.

Madison Central freshman team did indeed look good at Lexington Catholic freshman tournament. They were, however, beaten by Scott Co. freshman team. Scott Co. freshman were then beaten by 15 points by the freshmen of 10th region Campbell County, led by Matt Coffman, Kagan Gearhart, Pat Nerl, Grant Rose, and 6'5" Pete Albrecht. I'm sure most have not heard those names before, but here's hoping you hear more about them in the future.

camelsfan Posted January 10, 2006 Posted January 10, 2006 Did Campbell Co beat Scott County in the finals? Sounds like a pretty good group. Campbell Co. beat Scott Co. 55-40 in semi-finals in a very physical game. Got off to a rough start in the finals against Trinity and ended up losing by 14. You're right, they are a good group. No superstars, but they compliment each other well and are unselfish. Matt Coffman is good for 15 pts. and 10 boards. Kagan Gearhart adds about 14pts. per game. Pat Nerl also can put up some nice scoring numbers. Grant Rose runs the offense and distibutes the ball. Pete Albrecht is the newcomer to this group. At 6'5" and with a thick body, he is developing into quite a good player. He's the youngest of the group and far from done growing. I think his dad is 6'9" and he has a 6'2" 12 yr. old sister! There is also a nice group of kids to round out this team. Coach Maddy plays twelve guys every game.
msjball4 Posted January 10, 2006 Posted January 10, 2006 Lex Cath is loaded with talent in underclassmen mainly sophomores with Nate Novosel, Taylor Stewart, and Jordan Smart, are all taller than 6'4, and you throw Taylor Botkin into the mix, LC could be dangerous in a couple years
hova Posted January 10, 2006 Posted January 10, 2006 There are several talented freshmen in the 11th...I'd say Dunbar's Hudson,by virtue of being a top offensive threat for his team at the varsity level, is probably tops right now. Others include: Vince Sanford, PG, Lafayette Tyler Barber, F, Lafayette Keyshawn Simpson, PF, Madison Central Isaiah Kavanaugh, SG, Madison Central Taylor Botkin, G, Lex Cath TJ Barnes, F, Henry Clay Montell Morones, G, Bryan Station Marquis Clay, SG, Dunbar Cameron Mattingly, F Woodford Co. Barrett Meyer, G, Franklin County Not as strong as the sophomore class, but pretty solid.
