Both teams start the season Friday. East is trying to bounce back from a 0-10 season in 2011. Raceland is expecting a lot in 2012. Who wins?

Raceland. I'm excited to see how Raceland has matured. I'm also to see if East Carter has a different attitude this season. I hope they turn the corner soon.

I agree doc, the maturity will be the difference this season. This strong junior class is playing like seniors due to them being called upon as sophomores to start and contribute.

The difference in a lot of Raceland's wins this year will be the OL/DL. This group is big, fast, and well seasoned. They are an impressive group to look at. Put that with talent in the backfield and WR's you have the makings of a strong team.

Expectations are high.

East Carter lost a starting RB to injury in their scrimmage Saturday.

Am I mistaken or did I see Mac Boggs (#54) playing on the offensive line?

Yes you did, that is where he belongs. He is a decent high school running back, but he can be an outstanding high school and college OL/DL. He is 6'5" 255 lbs. He is built like the prototype DE and will make a good offensive tackle. That gives us 7 quality linemen this year, and 4 for next year. Great decision by Mac and the coaching staff in my opinion.

I thought it was an excellent switch as well. I thought he looked really well playing offensive tackle.

There's a learning curve, but he will only get better.

I don't mean to ruffle any feathers, but not playing RB, wasn't that part of the reason he left Russell?

Rams don't have feathers, so no problem here.

I think it is widely thought that he left Russell in 8th grade because they wanted him to play line, but in reality, it was much deeper reasons that caused his departure, mainly adults around the system.

Mac doesn't mind playing the line, he asked me about my thoughts on it last season, and actually brought the subject up to the coaches himself.

I wish him luck. I agree about the prototypical DE.

I am excited to see how we play. I thought we looked pretty good last Saturday against a pretty good Fleming Co. team.
