Kentucky Xplosion - Hot Time Classic Showcase

Featured Replies

The Xplosion will be in Florence, SC this week. 2 pool games on Thursday, 2 on Friday, & 1 on Saturday. Will keep everyone updated. Only bad thing about this tourney......only one catcher for the entire week, Cooper High School's Jessica Koors will have her work cut out for her.

The following is the link to pools and bracket schedule.

Best of luck, should be a trip the girls remember for a long time!

Lawnboy is this your first go around with travel ball as far as fast pitch is concerned? If so what are your thoughts so far.

Yes, first go around and I'm having a great time. My daughter is having a blast, she and the rest of the girls get along GREAT. It is nice when you have good sticks in the entire line-up and solid gloves as well, although you will have the occasional bad game, no team is immune to that. Don't get me wrong they love to have their fun, but EVERY girl is serious about playing the game and gives 100%. I just wish she would have gave up high school soccer a year or two earlier so she could have played sooner than now.

If my wife ever sees that last comment it will be my butt in the ringer.

This travel ball experience reminds me of my days on the slow-pitch travel circuit, man I miss that.

That's great that she is having fun, its a whole new world!!

Why does she need to give up HS soccer. Its hard to do both but if your coach is willing to work a little with you it can be done. Maddy has done it 3 out of her 4 years, the only year she didn't was bc she had pins in her foot. As much as we complain or I complain about HS softball around here soccer is just the opposite. There are a lot of really good things about most teams in the area.

Safe travels to SC, we will be rooting on you guys!!

There in lies the problem. Can't blame him though, he takes his soccer program serious.

The wi-fi here is terrible because of the weather, 2nd coming of Noah's flood the last couple of hours. Anyway, the Xplosion go 2-0 on the day in pool play. Won the 1st game 2-1 over Hampton Roads (Va) Vipers. Cooper's Jessica Koors drives in both runs in thetop of the 4th and top of the 7th. Game two was a 6-4 win over Columbia (SC) Aftershock. Score was 6-0 after the 2nd, Jessica Koors, Boone County's Madison Graham, & NewCath's Taylor Burkart all plate runs on singles and Boone County's Dallis Knotts hits a double with the bases loaded to drive in 3. Aftershock switches pitchers and Xplosion hit the ball, but right at fielders. Aftershock chip away, but fall short. The defense for the 1st two games has been GREAT.

Two games tomorrow 10:45 & 4:00.

Congrats on the victories and good luck tomorrow and throughout the weekend. Hopefully the fields are nice and drain well. With all the rain hopefully the fields are playable and you can get all your games in. Good luck.

The Xplosion settle for a 4-4 tie in 6 full this morning against Virginia Legends Elite. In the bottom of the 1st they put 4 on the board and knock the pitcher out. However they give up 3 in home half of the 1st and led by 1. Both teams trade zeros for the next couple of innings. In the top of the 4th Boone County's Jenna Johnson rips a double to the left-center fence, however she is stranded at 3rd. In the bottom of the 4th Virginia Legends Elite plate the tying run with teo out on a 3rd to 1st throwing error that should have ended the inning. The two two teams trade 0's for the next two innings and as the Xplosion's 1st batter in the 7th is walking to the plate time expires resulting in the tye.

With all the rain we had yesterday afternoon & evening, the fields were in Great playing shape for the games today. With the soil being that "sandy mix", the water is sucked up like a sponge. All the grass areas (on & off the field) are like putting greens, real short fine grass. However the outfields do have their "ruff" spots.

The Wi-Fi "SUCKS" down here because of the weather.

4:00 game against the North Carolina Challengers has been pushed back till 5:00. Had one hell of a storm roll through, dumped a load of rain and moved on just like that. The worst part.....after the rain the humidity is almost unbearable.

  • Author

Well they said it was going to be pushed back till 5:00, but it is AMAZING how these fields "suck up" the water. If we got half the rain back in NKY that we got down here there would be ZERO games played for a day, minimum, down here you get a half hour delay.

This afternoons game was one of missed opportunities for both teams. The (NC) Challengers get a runner on 3rd in the top of the 3rd with one out, but a line drive to SS Kelsea Satchwell (Gallatin Co.) results in a double play to end the inning. In the bottom of the 3rd Madison Graham (Boone Co.) leds off with a sinking line drive to left, but an "unbelievable" diving catch takes away extra bases. Next up is Taylor Burkart (NewCath) who sends a one-hopper to the fence in right for a double, but she is stranded there. In the top of the 4th the (NC) Challengers get a led off bunt single, the next batter gets down a bunt, but no one is covering 1st. Hannah Straley (Conner) fires a strike to 3rd has the runner on 1st attempts to make it to 3rd for the out. Two batters later the inning is over, as well as, the last real threat the Xplosion would face.

The Xplosion plate the only run of the game in the bottom of 4 has Dallis Knotts (Boone Co.) drops down a bunt, steals 2nd and is drivin' in by Kelsea Satchwell. Both teams hit the ball right at fielders and both played great defense, but in the end 1-0 is your final, advantage Xplosion. Of the 4 games played so far 3 have gone 7 innings and one 6 innings. going into tomorrows final pool play game at 10:15, the Xplosion are 3-0-1.

Forgot to mention, with the high temps and humidity down here after the morning game, Jenna Johnson (Boone Co.) was taken to the hospital with difficulty breathing. However it was determined she was having a sports induced asthma attack and made back to watch the final two innings of the 1-0 victory.

The Xplosion finish pool play 4-0-1 with a 9-5 win over the (NC) Knockouts in 5 innings. The Xplosion were led by Jessica Koors (Cooper) 2-3, 2b, 3 rbi and Erika Stein (Boone Co.) who was 3-3 with 3 doubles, and 4 rbi. Xplosion led 3-0 after 1, and were up 9-2 going into the bottom of 5 when the Knockouts scored 3 on a dropped line drive and a throwing error to 1st.

Play at 5:30 in one an out bracket play against Virginia Legends Elite, this is the team we tied with yesterday morning.

Strange thing about bracket play.......they had already determined the bracket prior to the tournament starting by have a blind draw and placing teams according. This made pool play meaningless in a sense. :idunno:
