While technically correct, I don't think I'd consider a Chief of Staff as just some staffer. Great thought and consideration typically goes into the selection of one's Chief of Staff and one's Chief of Staff has a great ability to control information given and access granted to the Secretary.

 

To the extent one is worried about Justice Thomas' wife influencing the Justice's vote on Obama Care, shouldn't one likewise be worried about the Chief of Staff's mother influencing the Chief of Staff? If there is a relationship closer than that of a mother and a daughter, I haven't seen it.

 

Please do not try to spin my comments into me asserting that Secretary Clinton is pro MB. I think the premise of the article has a foundation as thin as those that argued that former President Bush invaded Iraq to benefit his oil buddies.

 

I'd argue with you on who has more influence - the person you're sleeping with nightly or the person who you used to live with - but your point is fair. However, I was told that there are always conflicts and that these people are professional and will not let their duties and judgement be impaired.
