Right you are. Same non district, same district, class, everything. I've always found it amusing how Mercer caught all the crap for playing in the 'wrong' class, when Harlan County's situation was identical.

Of course, Harlan County's consolidation had been planned for years. The Mercer County merger seemed to have been done pretty hastily.

I guess going 7-3 and getting routed in the second round of the playoffs tamped down some of the anger over Harlan County.

 

I guarantee it did! After the slice and dicing, the rhymes and reasons given to make why one was more acceptable than they other, etc, etc; what you just said is exactly the reason why there wasn't even near (or any for that matter) the fuss that was made over Mercerburg.

It had been in the talks for a long, long time; had Mercer not already voted to build a new high school, I don't think you would have seen a merger. H'burg people, even the blue bloods as much as they hate to even still admit it, knew that their enrollment numbers were going to drop even moreso than they had the previous 10 years.
