Dixie 10 Newport Central Catholic 3

The up and down fiasco that is Newcath softball continued tonight in the land of Dixie. NewCath So. pitcher Taylor Burkart starts the game off with back to back K's and then gives up a Megan James shot that hugs the line down 3rd. Then what do you know, it's time for an error. Haley Schulte chops one down to Loren Zimmerman at 3rd who snags the ball on the high bounce and throws to Sr. Allison Steffen at 1st who drops the ball (Steffen was playing in place of leading hitter and starting 1st baseman Rachel Hardesty who was sick). Bella Lopez then hits one to left that finds its way under the glove of Sr. Kelsey Feeback for an error and James comes across for the 1st run. The next batter Mary Beth Odom hits one to right-center, and what do you know pitch a tent the circus is in town, the rightfielder calls for it but the centerfielder doesn't breakoff and they both watch the ball fall harmlessly between them and just like that it's 3-0. NewCath gets a one out triple off the bat of Fr. catcher Kristen Schreiber in the 2nd inning, but she is left stranded at 3rd. Dixie plates 4 in the 2nd, after 2 out and one on Meredith Hartfiel bloops one in over the shortstops head and Megan James hits a double to the gap in left-center to plate a pair, a 3-2 walk to Schulte and then an rbi single off the bat of Lopez and Burkart is sent to rightfield and on comes Sr. Megan Millard who gives up a 4th run of the inning and the Breds are down 7-0. The Breds get 2 in the 4th, but Dixie counters with 3 of their own in the frame. NewCath scratches 1 across in the 7th and that's the ballgame. The Breds are better than this, but the way they play at times makes me wonder??????

Dixie did a great job scoring the 1st 7 runs after two outs and 8th grader Bailey Spencer had 10 K's on the night, the young lady is going to be a good for the next 4 years.

Hats off to the Dixie coaching staff they have and continue to do an excellent job and are to be commended, this is going to be a team to watch out for in the next few years.

The consolation prize goes to the Breds JV who remain unbeaten with a 6-0 win.

Thanks for the update. You appear very fair in yuor assessment of your Breds win or lose.....

I agree Dixie is good amd well coached and will continue to be tough. Could, I say could, with the right draw and breaks win the region.....

I agree History. They lost to Conner this week in a very close game 2-1. I think Dixie is very well coached and can play with anyone in the Region. Anything can happen in the Regional tournament. Good luck to Dixie and NewCath the remainder of the year.

LB - Always enjoy your impartial write ups. Keep up the good work.

Porky and History, thanks for the kind words. When the Breds play well I will be more than happy to "sing their praise", however when they "stink it up" I will not hold back. This is a two-way street and I wouldn't do it any other way.

blah blah blah BGH is going to kick you out of his classes if you keep telling the truth. But i always see a little bit of him come out of you in the write ups with all the made up errors he is teaching you. Keep up the great work and you too may be ticked out of a jv game one day and will have to let BHG mow your lawn. hahahahaha
