Russell 63 Raceland 47

Russell takes their first district game of the new year.

Gill led all scorers with 26 and I believe he led rebounds with 8.

Russell looked very good at times and resembled a team I saw near the end of last year. They were especially effective in breaking the press for easy buckets. In their halfcourt offense, Gill did a good job of posting his man for some gimmies as well. Blair is on the verge of pulling it altogether and Clark is getting better each time out. I like what I saw tonight with ball movement, assists, and rebounding. They'll need all that and more against a tougher, more aggressive Boyd County team.

Fast paced game. Devils scored at will against the press. Devils are hard to press. They spread court and get layups . Russell had 17 turnovers ,but few were against press.Ram defense was pretty good when it got into half court set. Vanhoose hit some 3's and Gill was putting rebounds back in. The radio said Russell shot 55%. They also did decent at the line. Rams will be ok. Maybe a little tired from Tennessee trip.

A healthy Austin Blair is the key to this Devil team.

Thought maybe the long bus ride got the Rams. :D

Good win for Russell. Let's hope their improved play carries over to the Boyd County game and for the remainder of the season.

Might have been the new color man on the radio brodcast ;)

I couldn't understand why they would keep pressing?

I really didn't understand why the Rams kept pressing either. The Devils were getting easy basket after easy basket. The Rams seemed to have trouble with their rotation and not able toaccount for all five Devils on the floor. Offensively it didn't help the Rams to keep chucking up threes in the first half, the Rams did not start attcking the basket until the second half but they were already down 16, a little too late. Good win for the Devils.

Johnson knows what is best for his team. Let him work his magic. Russell was the much more talented squad in this one at least on paper.

And the Scoreboard

Raceland was tired from the trip, they will bounce back.

I realize that Raceland played out of area for a tournament, but do you say that fatigue was the reason why the Rams turned the ball over the first three trips down the floor. But I am sure that the Rams will be ready for their next opponent, Johnson will have them ready.
