Ryle 6 Highlands 2

Featured Replies

Was waiting for someone from one of these two schools to post a game thread, so I guess I will.

Arrived in the 2nd with Ryle up 1-0, on from what I was told a questionable call at the plate. Top of the 4th Ryle loads the bases with nobody out and Highlands pulls off a TRIPLE PLAY. A "shoestring" comebacker to the pitcher, who throws home and tags out the runner from 3rd, then she fires on to 3rd to catch the runner from 2nd. Highlands has 2nd & 3rd and 1 out in the 4th and missout on a golden opportunity. Ryle tacks on another run in the 5th and one more in the 6th. The run in the 6th was "HIGHLY DEBATED". What looked like a beautiful throwout at the plate by, I believe, the leftfielder was at first ruled an out. However Ryle asks the homeplate umpire to ask the field umpire if the catcher had control off the ball. After about a minute conference between the two she is ruled safe and "all hell breaks loose" on the Highlands side. From my vantage point couldn't tell if she "bobbled" it or not. However I didn't think she made it to the plate, but my opinion doesn't count. Highlands scores 2 in the bottom of the 6th, the first being a 220 foot "bomb" off the bat of 8th grader Shelby Graybill. So after 6 full Ryle 3-2.

Ryle scores 3 in the top of the 7th by puting on a "Bunting Cliinic", If I remember correctly they put down 4 in the inning and one looked like a suicide with two strikes on the batter. For the game Ryle had to lay down 8 or 9 bunts and most were to perfection. Unfortunatly for the Birds they come up empty in the 7th.

Overall was very impressed with how the Birds played and Ryle did what it had to do to win the game. Congrats to both teams for providing me and my daughter an entertaining game to watch. :thumb:

How many homeruns does Graybill have now? Is she leading NKY? I am surprised they are still pitching to her. Looks to be a very competitive game.

4 or 5, I think. The kid is "scary good". :notworthy: She does not cheat herself on her swing, that's for sure.

not often you will hear me say this but this was a good loss. The birds looked realy good tonight. The first run Ryle scored was on a missed play by our center fielder but who later in the game made up for it by throwing out a girl at the plate plus one that was called out then safe.

Was one of those games that the score was no reflection of the game. Could have gone either way. In the 7th Ryle scored 3 but never hit the ball out of the infield. Maybe the birds who had runners on first with one or no out several times in the game coud take some lessons and ask the girls to lay down some bunts.

4 whats scary funny about that is last Friday night Beechwood tried to walk her intentionally but the cathcer didnot stand up and pitch outside they just threw the ball high so she swang and knocked the ball to the fence looked like Pete Rose during the all star game funny thing to watch.
