The English poet, John Milton, in a poem once said, "They also serve who only stand and wait.” Junior Mary Kay Reilly has been in waiting for her first varsity win all season. She picked a big game to come thru in a superb way for Bishop Brossart on Thursday as they remained the only undefeated 37th District team (3-0 in seed games) after beating Scott 10-3 at Pendery Park. Scott has been playing much better and earlier this week had beat Campbell Co. 14-8 for their only win of the season.

The win for Brossart was it's 18th win in the last 20 meetings against their District rival from Taylor Mill.

Starting pitcher, Freshman Karlie Shackelford was injured on a play covering home plate, and Reilly was called upon to shut down Scott over the next 6 and two thirds innings. She allowed only two runs and 8 hits over that span for her first win as Brossart improves to 11-3 on the season while Scott falls to 1-9. The other good news is that Shackelford is fine and will be able to pitch Friday in the First Priority Classic in Whitley County.

It was pretty much all Lady 'Stangs after Scott scored it's lone run on a wild pitch in the first. Brossart took the lead for good in the second when Gretchen Trumbo and Allie Anstead raced home on a groundout and a sacrifice fly to second base.

Brossart started to turn it on in the third scoring three times. Maria Greis Singled and Molly Williams walked before Gretchen Trumbo struck out but reached first to load them after a passed ball. Anstead plated Greis with a sacrifice fly, Williams scored on an error by the shortstop and then Shannon Kremer plated Anstead with an infield hit. That made it 5-1 Brossart.

The fifth inning proved to be the clinching inning by far as the green and white scored 5 times sending 11 batters to the mound against starter Audrey Williamson and reliever Amanda Bruemmer.

Scott scattered two lone runs in the fifth and sixth. Ally Bradley and Williamson each had two hits for Scott.

Erica Reideman had two hits including a two rbi single in the big 5th inning. Maria Greis and Gretchen Trumbo also tallied two hits each for the winning team. Tricia Kramer, Riedeman and Shannon Kremer all had 2 rbis each in the District win.
