  1. I completely understand your point, but only agree with part of it. How good is JC? Who knows. We will see Friday night. But, I don't agree that JC will be more prepared than CCH because in playing a weak schedule you really don't know how to prepare. And, that it is not knocking coaching or scouting or anything, but more the way the players handle themselves in practice. CCH has to prepare like crazy and have a great week of practice before every game to compete at such a high level, while, even if JC has a bad week of practice, they can still come out with a victory because of superior talent. Teams that are good have good scout teams who can immitate the other team in practice to the best of their abilities. The team who has been given a better "look" in practice is the team who is better prepared, IMO.
  2. I really hope JC is just as good as advertised because I'm making the trip to see a competitive football game (along with being able to see family). Don't worry about "these northerners" finding out how good these guys are. They know because they are prepared. Shell shock is not a factor after you play the likes of Elder and St. X multiple times in a high school career like these guys have. If JC is as physical and as talented as those teams are, then I will have no problem eating my words, and you can be the first person to tell me "I told ya so." CCH has a lot of experience in big games, and I just hope JC isn't the one walking out of the locker room on Friday night with wide eyes and finding themselves caught up in the moment.
  3. Points of Interest That I'm Excited to Watch: CovCath's 3-3-5 stack will give Johnson Central's lineman problems, particularly the 3 interior players of JC's line, if they are not good athletes with good feet. Assuming that they run a man blocking scheme (as opposed to a zone scheme) becuase they are a wishbone team, they will almost be forced to double or at least chip the nose to the second level backers unless the center on their team is an excellent offensive lineman and can handle Nathan Kater by himself. If your guards aren't quick then good luck blocking Sam Flynn, who eventhough sideline to sideline he isn't excatly Brian Urlacher, he has quick feet inside and uses his hands well. Also, and I'm not sure if JC runs the veer or outside veer or not because I have never seen them play, but with the OLB stacked above the 4 techniques and another OLB/Rover type player off the edge, the read is difficult for the QB (if Matney or whoever calls the play actually lets him read it anyways and doesn't designate the ball carrier in the huddle). That same point applies if they are a true triple option team as well. With that being said, how many times have the JC lineman ever really seen a front of this style? Experience is big and before you can block someone you have to know your assignment and be confident that your right first. So, when JC has the ball, the play of JC's interior line is the factor because eventhough in some cases I agree that a great back makes an average line look good, a great back can only make a poor line look average. Average doesn't get you to Louisville. When CCH has the ball, I hope when I read that JC had played zone defense one time all year was sincerely a joke (or I simply read it wrong). Man coverage, while alright if you have the athletes to cover, will get you burnt unless you can get to the quarterback in less than 3-5 seconds depending on the routes. The Ohio teams that beat CovCath can do that and put the rest in the box and control the run and/or get after the QB. While JC may have 1 or 2 kids who can keep up with the Kurt Bovard and Pete Sutton, a 3rd and 4th player who can do it is highly unlikely (not really a knock on JC but who in the state really does) . Plus if these cover guys are going both ways, thats a lot of running in one evening of football. Hopefully JC will be able to play zone D better than what has been portrayed on this thread. As far as the running game, I understand that JC has a linebacker who is supposedly D1 and runs well, and that will help, but with the type of "stretch" running that CCH does, they will need D-Lineman to be able to turn and run sideways to stop the cutback and aid in backside pursuit. There D-Line better be athletic and I'm excited to watch what happens when CCH puts it on the ground. As far as a prediction, I'm a CCH alum who is very close to a bunch of these guys so I'm completely biased if you couldn't tell by my above topics. Of course, I think CCH will win this game and if it was at home at the friendly confindes of Wooten Field playing on field turf I'd say 63-0 or something ridiculous. But, it isn't and I know what my legs feel like everytime I get out of the car after the 3 1/2 hour trip to see my grandparents in Eastern Kentucky (Prestonsburg to be exact). So, with that, and the fact that emotions are going to be running wild, this game will be close for the first half;however, I just can't see JC keeping it close in the end and CCH pulls away in the 2nd half. CCH - 45 JC - 14 Take care of business fellas.
  4. No, my fault, that is the wrong information. My source confused an offer from the ND to be a verbal by Ben Martin. He has not committed there. I apologize for getting your hopes up as I know from personal experience that he is an absoulte monster and heckuva football player.
  5. To clarify for cshs81, Pete right now is on the upwards side of 6'3'' and is on the upwards side of 220. He has put on 12-15 lbs. in the past couple of months and there is a noticeable difference in his size from last year. IMO Pete would also be a huge help on the defensive side of the ball as there aren't many high school tackles going to be able to deal with his combination of speed, strength, and pretty good arm length coming off the end. I know the offer from EKU is legit and I'd expect to see more coming soon as coaches from ND, UK, Dayton and Miami (OH) have been at school. Strictly concerning ND, I'd say that they will be able to catch many of Peter's games as Charlie Weiss will be up in the Greater Cincinnati Area a lot watching Ben Martin (ND verbal, DE from LaSalle) and Darius Ashley (RB St. Xavier (OH), Class of '08 recruit). With that being said, I'd say his chances at proving he's worth a scholarship from them are legitemate.
  6. I know that he did not physically go out and apply for the Oak Hills job, but that he was contacted by Oak Hills themselves about the job. Can you really blame someone for listening?
  7. I would have expected Ryle to win this by more if they are to be considered one of the better teams in NKY.
  8. Seems to me like Ryle just doesn't know how to win a ball game as I'm pretty sure that's the second game they lost by walking in the go ahead run. It's a real shame too because they are a talented team, but talent doesn't get you a Regional Championship (or in Ryle's case the past couple of years, out of their own district). I'd say a good goal for this Ryle team would be to make it to the Regional Tournament and then consider everything after that bonus.
  9. To be honest, I would expect nothing less from her. She critiques my blocking and my baseball swing so why quit at how I condcut cheers in the student section. I gotta tell ya though, if she ever stopped, I'd be truly saddened. I think I'd miss her little comments too much. Gotta love a mom who knows the difference between man blocking and zone blocking:thumb: . As far as the '04 Student Section being better than our '06 group, you can't compare them. No one student section from year to year at CCH is EXACTLY alike. We will do things that they never did, and they will have done stuff that we won't do. All I can say is, were there to support our friends on the court and make the game just that much more enjoyable for the fans in attendance, CovCath supporters or not. Now, if you can ever fault a CCH Student Section for not accomplishing either of those two, then I will gladly sit down and listen to your arguement (no matter how many holes it may have;) ). TAKE STATE COLONELS!
  10. Here's what I took from the game: Scott County has a terrible time with any type of zone press. Full court man to man they easily handle:they are too athletic and to quick up the floor to be pressured like this. However, when you don't allow them to "out run" your defense they become quite rattled. They have to sit back and make good decisions and it resulted in some errant passes and just some simple mistakes that Top 5 teams shouldn't make. Scott County has a lot of maturing left to do if they want to win the war that is the 11th Region Tournament. They didn't take very good care of the ball in the second half and as soon as their hot shooting quit, CCH made their run. Scott County can run with anybody in the state, but too many times they got out of control. Also, their players reacted way too much with the CCH Student Section. Play the game. If 200 high school kids get to you, then you are further from Rupp than you think. By the end of the night you could tell that they were a young team who could use some on-the-floor leadership. CovCath played their most intense basketball of the year. If they can put 5 games in a row together like tonight than the 9th Region is theirs. Now, if it is going to take a Top 5 team like Scott County to come into your gym for you to play at that level, then you could be looking at an opening round district loss to Holy Cross. With all that being said, I'm still not sure they played their best basketball tonight. Their shooting was off (except from the free throw line which was a pleasant surprise) and too many times they dribbled into the corner, got 1/4 of the way down the baseline, jumped out of bounds and had to make a low percentage pass back out to the top to save a potential turnover. You can't just heave the ball around on offense and expect to beat good teams. It seems like CovCath is doing everything but pulling out the W in the end. Scott County shoots a perfect 5/5 from behind the arc in the 1st quarter, hopping out to a 10 point lead. They endured the 10 point first quarter defecite and kept within striking distance during the 2nd quarter to be able to come out at half and make a run. Consequently, they did what they had to do. They played aggressive defense, got some cheap buckets and got themselves back into the game. Eventually, they took the lead by 9 in the 4th only to have two straight bad possessions involving quick, low percentage shots letting the Cardinals make a final run to win the ball game. CCH has yet to put together a full 32 minutes of basketball. It's late February boys, time to dig deep and pull a game out. Even after all the meaningless critiquing, as a fan and a Covington Catholic student, I left the game feeling I received more than my money's worth tonight. I enjoyed Scott County's parents interracting with us because that's what makes it fun and the atmosphere was just great. I hope we gave them something to write home about as well. It was a fun game to watch and hopefully these two teams meet again with a little more at stake.
  11. The PIT at Elder High School. Never played under better atmostphere and missed getting a win there by 12 inches to the right. You get to play in front of 12,000 people and having 11 of those 12 wanting you to lose is a bit unsettling. Plus, they just put in FieldTurf so your playing on IMO the best surface available. I bet many colleges wish they had something close to that stadium.
  12. We did honor him. He received a few cheers; however, after a discussion with the some key faculty members at school the day before, we were not allowed to fully honor the man. So, just in case a so called faculty member knows who I am, I can't actually reveal who we chose. But, if you think about it hard enough, you could come up with a pretty good guess (his dad's name resides above a concession stand at the football field).
  13. Just an oversight on your part, I'm sure, but Scott is now a member of the 10th region.
