  1. Tackett did do a good job previously. Some others that come to mind and I don't know all of their names are: 1. Hillard Howard's son (Ben?) 2. Chapman from Breathitt 3. Pike Co. Central's HC 4. Sheldon Clark's HC (don't know if he would even be interested, though) 5. Chuke Williams (BUT, kind of afraid that since he's been out of coaching for a while - just like Goldsmith - he may have lost his edge) 6. Tackett 7. ? I think that all of the above would be viable options. I believe we should go out of the county(program) to find a HC and he needs to have some previous experience and success. If it's an assistant, I would prefer one that has been a top assistant at a program when they won a state title. Whoever is hired should keep at least a couple of coaches, especially, Blake. He came at a difficult time and wasn't given a chance. For now, I think he would be a great assistant for anyone and future HC.
  2. CONFIDENCE. Wins create confidence and can make a less talented team play above their abilities. For the past four years LC has played a brutal schedule with young teams. They would start the season 0-4, 1-3, 1-5 and so on, which causes the team to lose all of their confidence. With the loss of confidence - they lose their fire, they make mistakes and one bad play causes them to give up. It's too late for a good start now but, I would think that starting next year they should lighten the schedule. Build a schedule where they can start with two or three wins in a row and then see how they play Belfry, Pburg and SC - I guarantee there would be a big difference. Hopefully, with their district being much easier, they can get some W's and gain some confidence.
  3. What individuals looked good for LC? How are they utilizing Fitzpatrick and Pack in the backfield? Who's their receivers? How many freshmen and sophomores do they have? I haven't had the opportunity to see them this year because I've been working out of town. Thanks.
  4. I thought that our freshman qb played pretty well. He needs to work on his accuracy, though. Does anyone know what happened to No.8 Butcher? I didn't see him in the second half.
  5. What happened to the two backs? Did they get hurt? I wasn't at the game last Friday. Can anyone fill me in on some of the details?
  6. SC's offensive line and big backs overpowered our little d-linemen. Our defense was really tired all night because SC seemed like they had the ball almost three entire quarters. On a good note, LC seems like they have the potential to be really explosive on the offensive side of the ball. LC would get the ball and score in about four or five plays. Every score tonight for them was from about 50+ yards out. I bet SC had a clock advantage of 4-to-1. Everybody is talking about junior fullback Coty Roberts, but what about sophomore halfback/qb/db/kickoff returner/punt returner Mark Fitzpatrick? For those who don't know who he is, he wore no. 3 last night. He look to be the fastest kid on the field. We have some really talented freshmen and sophomores and he's the best of the bunch. He scored from about 60 yards out. Also, the LC kick return has some explosiveness as well. If you kick it deep, then you have to stop Fitzpatrick and Morgan Roberts. If you kick it on the ground, you have to worry about Robert Butcher, who returned one for a score last night.
  7. It doesn't look too good losing to Montgomery Co. in a scrimmage based on what they've done the last 10 years. Last week LC didn't look very good to me - pretty good defense, but terrible offense. What happened in the scrimmage?
  8. Robert Butcher started on defense this year. At times, when Jason Spradlin wasn't playing or when they played two wideouts, he started at receiver too. Personally, I thought he was the best running back we had and potentially one of the most explosive.
  9. Like I said earlier, I think that Lawrence Co. could beat some of the teams in the 3A top ten. But until some of the those teams lose, LC isn't going anywhere. We also have to keep on winning games and proving ourselves to move up.
  10. theguru, To answer your questions, Lawrence Co. has never made it to the state finals. The last time they made it to the semi-finals was in 1999 when they lost to nationally ranked Highlands. Before that, they made it to the semi-finals in 2A in 1997 and were led by Jason Michael (who quaterbacked Western Kentucky to the 1-AA National Championship this past season). Before 1997, LC made it to the semi-finals in 2A in 1991. They lost to Mayfield 21-18. Keep in mind that LC has only been a school for about 22-23 years.
  11. I definitely think that Cov. Cath. should be in the top 10, but I definitely think that LC can beat (and are better than) some of the current top 10 teams. It's that way every year. I don't think losing to national ranked and eventual state champion Highlands in '96 and '99 and '95 state runnersup in the playoffs qualifies as a "choke" or means we didn't prove ourselves. Everybody else lost to them in those years. In '97, we ended Breathitt County's 42 game win streak in the playoffs. In '96, we beat Ryle in the playoffs. In '99, we beat Whitley Co. 68-20, Bell Co. (@ BC) 40-6 and Rockcastle Co. (@ RC) 48-14. We were ahead of RC 48-0 at the start of the 4th quarter and they scored their two td's on our jv. Last year was the 1st year since 1990 that we didn't make the playoffs. In 1990, we went 11-0 and we didn't make the playoffs because we refused to play in our 3a district. We've proven ourselves more than most teams. I don't think anybody should accuse LC of not proving themselves. The only thing we haven't done is win a state championship. How many in the top ten has won a state title?
