The Legend of Zelda was probably the first game I truly loved. The first game I owned was the Super Mario Bros./Duck Hunt combo that came with the NES, but I don't think I could really say I loved it. Zelda and Mario 3 are the first two games I can remember just playing for hours and hours on end.

My dad was 14 years old and at camp. He said they gathered up the 200 or 300 scouts, whatever it was, and had them all huddled up around a tiny TV set in the dining hall.

When can I go back to Michigan? It's going to 97 degrees here on Saturday. Can't do anything with that except sit around and sweat. Already looking at maybe going back in September or October.

Watched a special on PBS' American Experience about this on Sunday. They're doing another Wednesday night in which they're going to use archival video with the actual radio transmissions between the Apollo crew and Houston control to try and demonstrate the moon landing in real time. And for those interested, HBO did an update to their old "From the Earth to the Moon" series with all-new digital effects.

Meh. Pretty dull night all around. Saint Louis never got anything going offensively. Gave up a sill goal on a defensive mistake mid-second-half and that was all she wrote. A stoppage-time penalty made it a 2-0 win for Atlanta United. This was the only match I watched all 90 minutes of. The rest of the games completely justified that decision. New Mexico had a 1-0 that lasted all of four minutes before Minnesota leveled the visitors for the...

I like to get an appointment. My spot is right outside downtown Cincinnati and I usually go in the middle of a workday, so it's nice to know I can walk in and walk out most of the time.

Never been to either St. Scholastica or UMD, but the first time I visited Duluth, I was able to look out onto Lake Superior in late October. There's no place in America like it. I still can't believe ships and boats go out there on purpose. I agree though, Duluth is great. Was there two more times as I got older. Really want to go back. I have been to St. Olaf College though. Much further South and inland. Nice campus and very pleasant place...

My dad just had his right knee done, after having his left done last year. After about four weeks, his legs are straight for the first time in probably 15 years and he's already walking really, really well. It's a game changer when you really need it.

Quarterfinals take place Wednesday this week (7/10): Orlando City SC (MLS) v. New York City FC (MLS) Atlanta United FC (MLS) v. Saint Louis FC (USLC) Minnesota United (MLS) v. New Mexico United (USLC) Los Angeles FC (MLS) v. Portland Timbers (MLS) All matches on ESPN+. Last year only one non-MLS team made the quarterfinals (Louisville City). The last non-MLS team to make the semifinals was FC Cincinnati (USL, 2017). The last non-MLS...

Mexico 1 USA 0 Final. Pretty solid first half effort falls short as Berhalter's lousy bench had NOTHING to offer after the break. Martino moved some things around on the field at halftime and Berhalter just didn't have any personnel available to correct it. Had Altidore or Pulisic buried either of their solid chances in the first half, maybe this goes to penalties and anything can happen. You need the breaks to go your way sometimes in...

The Barton rickhouse collapse last year is the most interesting from this standpoint because it put a massive hole in the entire future supply of 1792.

Do we have any sense of how much whiskey this is out of all the stock for particular years? Is the industry legitimately going to have to think about an inventory issue and pricing a few years from now?

This flag has apparently come into use by white nationalist groups, who use it as a symbol of the United States at a time when white supremacy was enshrined in the Constitution. There was a controversy some years ago about high schoolers somewhere in Michigan flying the flag during a game against a predominantly black school. I don't remember all of the context.

I liked Comerica. It's odd sitting high-up along the third base side and staring into the shattered windows of a dead American dream, but that's downtown Detroit for you. The park itself is really well designed and there's definitely something about staring out across that massive outfield (which has to be the biggest --or close to it -- in MLB these days). Great pregame spot right across the street called Hockeytown that's a massive three-story...

This has been a thing for a while. There are several VERY popular YouTube shows with this format and the entire Twitch platform was built for this and has been a massive success. I am not usually a huge fan of these (and some of them have been hugely problematic), but I'll be honest, I watch more than one of the McElroy Brothers' regular series on YouTube which follow this format: Car Boys, in which two guys play an insanely lifelike driving...

Ate out several times during my 10 days in Michigan, but the highlight was Siren Hall in Elk Rapids. Oysters, Iceberg Wedge Salad, Steamed Mussels and Frites. Decided to go back on our second-to-last night up there. More Oysters, Caesar Salad, Clam Chowder, fried Lake Michigan Perch.

I still can't think about D'Angelo Russell without thinking about those Central teams in 2012 and 2013 and how good they'd have been... especially 2013. Add Russell to a team that already went 23-6? Whew. That said, the move to Monteverde clearly worked out great for him and I hope he finds some real success in San Francisco.

Camden Yards and PNC Park have been a step above everything else I've been to. I've heard that San Francisco is supposed to be great but I've never been there for a game. Fenway is also definitely on the list.

I'm having some trouble staying focused. Last day at work before I leave tomorrow morning for 10 days in Northern Michigan. It's going to be 70 degrees and sunny when I arrive tomorrow. Per the forecast, the 74 degrees on Saturday is expected to be as warm as it gets. This is some serious golf weather. And good lakeside reading weather. I'm ready to go.
