Woodford Porter was a big deal at UofL. I remember when he died 15 or so years ago. First African-American to get elected to the Board of Education. Trustee at UofL, even served as president for a while. Sat on the board at the old Bank of Louisville before it merged with BB&T. That scholarship program in his name is something UofL is hugely proud of and rightly so. Welcome to the UofL family, Darrian.

What's been a passing fancy for other leagues has become an obsession for the ACC since starting the network. Not the last time this is going to happen. I assume that from now on, pretty much any year Louisville doesn't have a marquee non-conference matchup to start the year (ND last year, Ole Miss next year), the ACC is going to throw this at us. Not a fan.

One weekday game for the poor guy that has to drive in from Cincinnati, so I could do without that, but I like the way this shakes out. I was partly convinced they were going to throw Clemson at us to start the year so I'm relieved that didn't happen. NC State at home is an GREAT opener. I like the bye week before the back-to-back home games against Florida State and Va Tech. It already feels like winning one of those two will be the...

Florida State is stil the favorite for me until I see a little more of what this team looks like with Johnson running the point. Yesterday was outstanding, but it’s still a sample size of one game and FSU absolutely humiliated Louisville in every way two weeks ago when they played. The seminoles get both Virginia teams on the road in back to back games two weeks from now. That will be a big test of where things stand.

I've been a huge fan of Nine Inch Nails and Trent Reznor for a long time. Absolutely deserved. David Bowie once said that he had the influence of a group like The Velvet Underground, touching more other musical acts than could ever be readily understood. Considering he ended up with a writing credit for his sample on Lil Nas X's "Old Town Road", composed what I thought was a fantastic score for HBO's Watchmen series, and was sampled into...

This was the most preposterous image to come out of the whole thing. That line isn't horizontal. What exactly is "pointing upward"? and Their "triangle"... HAS FOUR BLEEDING SIDES!

It's important to remember that this is still second division soccer, so unlike MLS teams, which get MASSIVE incentives and subsidy from the US Soccer Federation, we're essentially on our own in an extremely unstable environment. I say that to say this: they clearly tried to do this on the cheap and so a cheap logo is what they got. The design elements were misaligned, the color scheme is poor, and the image has zero depth to the elements...

The bottom of this article is where they outline the methodology. It's no surprise that the poorest states in the country fared very poorly in the healthcare sections. It's basically all about ease and affordability of access for people over 65, in addition to using numerous metrics of healthcare outcomes. Tough ask for Old Kentucky. 22’s Best States to Retire The methodology itself is otherwise pretty interesting. It makes me wonder...

If someone in the organization was tipping off either bettors or oddsmakers as to a confidence scheme that impacted the game, that's participation in gambling and would absolutely result in lifetime bans. But I don't think we have evidence that's what was happening here.

I'd like to see a one- or two-year ban on new free agent signings. That would really hit these big-money teams.

Baseball loves its traditions and rules. There is one cardinal sin: gambling. It's what started the serious regulation of baseball and is the rock upon which the sport's governance is built. We can philosophize on the severity of what the Astros did until we're blue in the face, but gambling is absolutely unforgivable in baseball. Simply the way it is.

It appears the Astros have fired the GM. Both the GM and the manager are set to serve one-year suspensions.

Agreed. The directive to the offense from Zimmer was clear: I'm building a defense over here and I want you to emphasize the running game. Great if you can pull it off, but the line simply isn't good enough to use Cook to set up play-action. That's supposed to be the whole offense and that's why it's looked so poor against good teams this season.

Spend $135 million on two receivers and a QB while emphasizing the running game and not upgrading the offensive line and this is what happens against good teams. Lots if analysis to be done this offseason to see if this is sustainable. The Saints win was impressive, but I still can’t figure out just how it happened.

Lol. She's Icelandic, I'm pretty sure. They're pretty much the last ones to still use the old Nordic "-son" and "-dottir" naming conventions. And that "dth" in there is only because I couldn't figure out how to make an eth with my keyboard. But now I've found it. Guđnadóttir.

Saw it over the weekend. It was pretty good. Joaquin Phoenix was outstanding but was working with what I thought was a pretty limited script. But it was the music I remember. Definitely the best combination of selected popular music with original composition I've heard in a while. Maybe the two best scores I've heard this year were somehow done by the same woman: Hildur Gudthnadottir. She also did the music for HBO's Chernobyl series.

I was blown away by Louisville going 7-5 this season. A lot of their wins were very close and their losses were not. For me, that's not a recipe for gaining many more wins next year. I guess the hope is that the teams responsible for for the close wins take a big step back, which might actually be the case with both Virginia and Wake Forest losing their best players. No telling what BC will be up to (a game that was just a two-point home win for...

That Dayton team was going to be great. Significant injury problems kept them out of the tournament, then they got healthy going into the NIT and absolutely ran through that thing. My least favorite season of Dayton basketball.

He took the Baylor program from dead in the water to a conference title contender really quickly, but that says more about his skill as a program-builder than anything else. I'm curious to know if that skill set translates.

Probably pushed off, but they didn't call the DB for grabbing Rudolph's arm before that either. I'll grant that I'm a Vikings guy, but that's a pretty solid no-call for me.

I gave up on the notion that they'd ever can the bowls. I used to advocate for ridding ourselves of them all together but no one at the NCAA seemed interested in what I had to say. I know, I couldn't believe it either.

Was talking about this at work this morning. The American should do something to improve their bowl tie-ins. As a Louisville fan, some of the best bowl appearances I can remember were during that brief period when the C-USA champion met the Mountain West champion in the Liberty Bowl. For the rest of my life I'll never forget the 44-40 win over Boise State in 2004. The AAC and Mountain West should get something together where the best...
