Russell will not struggle as much as people think that they will. Outside of maybe 3 teams the rest of the region is pretty weak. Russell has some potential coming up in the system. The question about Russell this year is do you take a team like this and coach only the upper classmen or do you play the younger ones? In a few years Russell will be a good team, why not play the younger ones this year (A little here and a little there) and let them gain some valuable expereince.
I am close to Ashland, Boyd, Fairview, Rose Hill, Russell, Racleand. I have covered their games in the past both boys and girls and I still have a few contacts. I am wrong quite often and right every once in awhile, so dont take everything I state as 100% pure fact, much is specualtion.
Biggest difference in that game was Brit Faulkner's relentless attack of pushing the ball up the court. Queen played a great game on both ends of the court. Terry did a super job playing defense on Russell's version of Shaq. Adkins brought her toughness and stability and Dundon played good as well.
Kidwell will be fine and he was due to get the boys job regardless of what the Administration thinks. Ashland has often been called Russell East for various reasons. In both of these schools it's not always the Administration that is calling the shots.
I wish the best of luck to all 16th regional teams both boys and girls. I would love to see the region get back to what it once was...full of talent. Right there are two teams that stand out in the boys. Sandy Hook is head and shoulders above everyone followed from a long distance by Westwood. For girls in this region it will be a toss up. Rowan seems to be the favorite, teams 2-16 could fall in any order by the time the season ends.
I don't think that Roger's pick will end up being the coach...
IMO, Roger is the 3rd Greatest Boys coach of all time in the 16th Region...
Not only is Boyd weak but this coming year might just be the weakest over all for the 16th Region. It will be another cake walk for Sandy Hook barring any injuries.
I'll throw some names out there but who knows:
1. Brock Walter
2. Dave Wooten
3. Brian Lemaster
4. Bill Bradley
5. Clay Euton
6. Jeff Hall
7. Randy Ward
8. Chris Barnes
9. Joda Burgess
10. Rick Griffith
