  1. Congrats Shane, I wish you the best of luck at Wake, what a great choice. Kudos
  2. Congrats to Cov Cath from here in Johnson County, your playoff run left no doubt who the best team in 3A was this season. And thanks to Birdsfan for posting the updates.
  3. I thought that too, but the existing classification does take it into account to some extent. For all male schools, they simply double the male enrollment and count that as the total enrollment. If you look at the current alignments and enrollments, one of the first columns on the spreadsheet is "Double," with an entry under it of "False" for most teams and "True" for all male schools. Then the total enrollment column simply becomes double the real enrollment. As others have posted, many of these schools that could be in lower classes play up to keep up traditional rivalries that might have been broken by the new classes, as well as other competitive reasons. e.g. CovCath could have been 4A but will move up to 5A, partially because Highlands moved up from 3A to 5A and they don't want to lose a district rivalry.
  4. This Eagle fan agrees with BGGreen and Theoldguy that the best way to put an end to this nonsense is for JC to schedule Cov Cath in an open date next year (or better two, home and home). Maybe even a kickoff "bowl" game. Yes, the distance is something to consider, but we have to travel to Lexington and Woodford county for district games anyway, so the extra 40 minutes shouldn't be that bad. Win or lose, the Eagles will improve by playing championship quality opponents, and for whatever reason we have trouble finding quality non-district opponents closer to home. Maybe this unhealthy topic can give rise to a healthy rivalry...
  5. Colonel-Fan, thanks for all the links and a very good analysis of the game. You even were kind enough to edit out the headline of this article: Colonels finish strong CovCath rolls past Paintsville 38-14, advances to title game Obviously, there is a sports headline editor who doesn't follow Kentucky HS football, Paintsville lost to Hazard two weeks ago. They could at least have said "Johnsonville." But I'm glad you (and therefore we) get coverage in a big paper like the Inquirer at all, so please don't think it's "sour grapes" from me. Cov Cath is a great program with great student and community support. Hopefully JC is now on the path to building that kind of program. Good luck to the Colonels (and especially their seniors in their last game) next week.
  6. WYMT had Shawn with 221 on 20 carries (as against Ashland the first time and Rock, over 10 yards a carry) and Blake with 80 yards on 16 carries. Attendance, while great, was a little under last year's Apple Bowl, I think. CCH did bring 9 charter buses and overflowed into the endzone by their student section, there were people on the track all around the stadium but only "12 deep" (as Spike said on the radio) in the CCH endzone. Even most in the stands spent most of the game on their feet, but it will be great to have more seating and visitors on the opposite side next season.
  7. Thanks Yoter. In case you aren't the only one there in an Ashland letterman jacket, is your number on it? (and if so is it 53 or 00, the avatar or user name)? p.s. and now this thread has had more looks than the KHSAA scoreboard link, or any other that I can recall, and all without being shut down!
  8. “Doctors told me that I would never walk again and I proved them wrong,” Fleming said. “I think if you trust in God, wonderful things will happen.” What a wonderful thing to learn at such an early age! Good luck to the Briarjumpers tonight!
  9. As much as I love teams named Central that wear black and gold (or even yellow), I see BG's big game experience overcoming Central's home field advantage and athleticism. Good luck to both teams tonight, may both play their best game and the game be injury free!
  10. The weather is sunny, cool this morning but predicted in the 60's by 5:00 pm. Chilly again this evening but probably not lower than 40's through the game. Field is still a little slippery inside the 20's, dry in the middle outside that due to good tarp work this rainy fall. I guess we'll see in warmups how he deals with grass and the conditions. Good luck to both kickers tonight:thumb: p.s. has anyone else noticed that this thread is lilkely by game time to be the most often viewed thread on BGP, close now to the Riherds scoreboard sticky at over 10,000 looks? I don't know how much respect either of these teams has outside their own programs and each other, but there sure seems to be a lot of interest!
  11. Thanks for the links, Colonel-fan! Some new avatars may be born from these slides. Great shots of Ratliff, Griim and Taylor as well as the Ashland players.
  12. I was going to get "offended," before I realized that this was just a topic beyond your experience. Yes, we do it before every game because GRASS doesn't come pre-marked, as the fields you have played on do. And the crayons that might work on turf don't do a thing for grass. We tried doing it after the game, but after much thought concluded it should be done before, for the referee's sake if no one elses. But if you want to think it's 'specially done for you, you are welcome to. Seriously, this is good news because the last few weeks the red zone at each end has been so wet that the markings weren't very visible by half time. Our field is bermuda grass and mostly brown now, so it won't be quite as colorful as you city slickers might expect, but the playing conditions should be good for both teams.
  13. Mark is a class guy and sent a similar PM to me. I was serious about putting a brat on the grill for him, if that doesn't work out I'll bring him one of our good burgers Friday night. Safe trip to Eagleville to all the CCH entourage!
  14. Seriously, the basics of defense have a lot to do with our regional championship. Rockcastle scored late on a long pass (despite 5 INTs I still thing our best pass defense is the blitz), but tonight was a great example of basic bend and don't break defense. Still, a whole lot of shootouts tonight, none more obvious than LexCath and Cov Cath, which is surprising.
