  1. Among gyms in the western part of the state. Breckenridge's new gym is superb. It has all of the bells and whistles. Also Apollo's gym is excellent. Most gym's in the third region are legit. You also can't forget the Sportscenter in Owensboro, where all of the great games in third region history have been held.
  2. Henderson has one as well, don't forget!! This should add to the intrigue!
  3. I hope Hendo wins this one just so Duffer can go out and say shove it to all of his critics. He is a throwback, just like the coaches from way before. Grant it he doesn't know that this is 2006, the man can coach. He would be better off to go to another level and coach. At least in college if you cuss a "man" you don't have to deal with his folks and the city council worried about how you treat people. He is just like his old man and look where it has gotten him, the state semi finals. People need to get off of his back and let him coach. I don't believe that his sportsmanship is all that great, but heck look at the throwbacks, his old man, Walter Brugh or Joe Jaggers. No one told them how to run their programs and look at their success. I hope Hendo wins this one for the "Duffer."
  4. We have failed to remember, Hillard Howard as well. Before he got to Letcher Central, he had Deramus, Hackney and a whole bunch of studs down in Pikeville in the late 80's and early 90's. Also what about Mr. Smith at Boyle County, I won't even get into his stats.
  5. The wonderboy from Catholic. I first heard he went to WKU after leaving Mt. Union, OH, but he is not on the roster at WKU. Anybody heard where he is?
  6. Richard "Big Dipper" Blount held one of the greatest sports shows on high school sports in the early 90's. Does anyone else remember that?
  7. I am sure we can all agree that coverage of High School Sports is at an all time high. But when it comes to old school beat writing and high school notebook coverage, I would say Mike Fields of the Herald-Leader, Jody Demling of the Courier-Journal, and Mark Mathis of Messenger-Inquirer are 1, 2, 3. My question is, "Who else in the state of KY, covers high school sports in the papers like those guys?" I wanna hear you from Murray to Pikeville!!! P.S. R.I.P. Richard "Big Dipper" Blount, one of the greatest ever. A man who touched a ton of kids in the mountains of Eastern KY.
  8. I noticed that one name hadn't been mentioned and that was Justin Miller of the Jets. Born and raised in Owensboro, KY. He was consistently the best player on a dominating Red Devil team that was only bested by Ft. Thomas Highlands. http://www.nfl.com/players/playerpage/416899:fire:
  9. COLOR="DarkOrange"]]:flame: Grayson County [/color]pulled a major upset in these two 3rd region teams. Apollo, a traditional 3rd Region Powerhouse was a definate favorite in this game. But as they say, "That is why they play the games." Grayson County has traditionally been competitive, but is primarily known as a team who wins but not the "Big Games." GCHS executed their brand of "Small Ball" and took out the might Goliath. ]:flame: This will put them on a high note as we get into district ball and regional tourney time. As we all believe and saw, this was an off day for Apollo and they should recover quickly and as a fan we hope they do. We are all looking forward to a 9th District final against Catholic and a probable rematch in the region final. But kudos to GCHS, this should build some nice momentum in "Cougar Country."[/font
  10. Letcher Central is another example of how consolidation helps kids. Jenkins, eventhough an independent school district. Will never be able to compete with over three fourths of the schools in the 14th. You can say what you want about giving more kids oppourtunities, but the bottom line is: "Kids want to win more than they want to just play."
  11. Where did he end up going? I know he had a serious knee injury but beforehand he was highly recruited. Did anyone give him a look?
