Final
This sets up Greenup County @ Boyd County next week for the district title.
-
Boyd County is 2-2 against common opponents while Lawrence County is 0-4 against the same:
Russell, Breathitt County, Greenup County, and Rowan County.
However, Lawrence County won during the regular season...
By the way -- Coal Grove only played 9 games in 2007 so they were 7-2, not 7-3 -- the Daily Independent was wrong.

Lawrence County's non-district opponents were 60-9, not 60-10! Wow!

Instead of dull predictions, how about fans of the Vikings and Musketeers provide reasons for prognostications?!?

Was that a KHSAA trophy or one that the school presented the team? As I said, my understanding was that the KHSAA was not acknowledging a regular season champ or runner-up. The district champ & runner-up are to be decided after the second round of the playoffs and the trophies will be presented at that time.
Look at page 8 from this website:
http://www.khsaa.org/football/footballplayoffinstructionsnoforms.pdf
TROPHIES
First Round
A trophy labeled Regular Season District Winner will be sent to the manager of the top seed in the district prior to the
first round round game. A trophy labeled Regular Season District Runner-up will be sent to the manager of the second
seed in the district prior to the first round round game. The trophy bill is to be paid for from the proceeds of the first
round game and the check shall be made directly to the trophy company. The invoice is mailed under separate cover to allow for accurate shipping costs. This trophy should be presented before the first round game. The trophies are being shipped from out of state and should arrive not later than Wednesday. For planning and budget purposes, the cost of the trophies is approximately $54.00 plus shipping.

I heard the same thing about he quit or something at halftime. WOW!!! Didn't they score last in regulation & the kick failed? If indeed he did quit on his teammates and they could have won the game in regulation had he been there to kick it would be a tough pill for me to swallow as a player. It also potentially changes the overtime strategy because you have confidence in your kicker to send it to another OT at home.
All regulation points were scored in the 1st half -- tied 27-27. There were no points scored in the 2nd half.

Mason played at greenup 3 years ago which was also senior night.....hopefuly the outcome will be a little different.
Mason-20
Greenup-14
Mason also played at Greenup County last year and won 7-0 on Friday the 13th (10/13/06). Considering that it was Greenup's final home game, it was probably senior night, too.
-
I don't understand why nobody respects Greenup......they are a talented team and to be honest they have played very good football lately.......I understand the teams they have played isn't very good but I see us beating Mason!!
Respect is earned -- earn it on the field on Friday night against Mason County!
-
Mason Co comes to town!!
Mason County (6-3) @ Greenup County (3-6) should be a hard-hitting ballgame. It will be a great tune-up for both squads heading into the playoffs. Let's hope that all participants come away healthy heading into post season play!

I agree with you on Rowan and Greenup, but Coal Grove this year anyway is a playoff team in Ohio which is tough to do especially since LC is not giving them any Harbin Points.
Coal Grove has to hope for a loss tonight by Eastern Meigs County in order to obtain the 8th and final spot in Div 5 Region 19 in Ohio's playoffs. The team they are competing with for that final spot (Belpre) defeated Eastern. Belpre will receive the 2nd level points for Eastern's win tonight if it occurs.
-
Keep in mind Grant County was eliminated from playoff contention last week. Could they have been flat?
Boyd County is shaping themselves up for a trip to Franklin County during the third round of the playoffs.
Jumping quite a bit ahead, aren't you?

BECAUSE RUSSELL DOES NOT LOSE TWO IN A ROW EVER SORRY FOR YOUR LUCK BECAUSE YOU ALL ARE GOING TO NEED IT.
Russell last lost 2 games in a row during this 4 game losing streak in 2001 (notice the 2nd team.)

^^Sun Tzu your question wasn't for me but I will just say that a Head Coaches assistants are a major part in any programs sucsess. I know that Raceland has had a steady program and assitant coaches through the years. Russell has some very capable Asst.'s as well.
Just some of the Assistants at Raceland in some of the years past and present are/were............
*Randy Vanderhoof (current head coach was under Bill Tom Ross for years),
*Gerad Parker (is now an assitant at the University of Kentucky),
*T.J. Maynard (was an excellent head coach at GCHS),
*Odell pack, Wendell Morris, Larry Stanley (these three were long time assistants at Raceland and each one would have made excellent head coaches),
* John Reed (went on to be an excellent head coach at Morgan Co.)
*Dan Mercer (Was a head Coach at GCHS and was an assitant at GC during some of their glory years),
*Current asssitant Lewis ( was under B. Lutz at Ironton,Oh. for years and years - I don't think that I need to tell anyone what a plus that is).
*Todd Burroughs and M. Fainnin are current asst. coaches that also do a great job.
I have just mentoned a few past and present at Raceland to make a point on what good assistants mean to a program and I am sure that I have left some off and not meaning to.
Thanks for the valuable information, but I was wanting Old Warrior to respond to my question.
-
The freshmen and jv. have good coaches, Coach Sammons doesn't utilize them at varsity games, he calls all the offensive plays, and some on defense. Coach Warnock and Coach Mullins, (JV) [4-1] record, Coach Meenach and Coach Stephens, [4-0] record, Coach Sammons varsity, [1-5], he should listen more to his assistants, he's kind of set in his way about the game of football, my way or no way.
Old Warrior, I understand that you watch practices from the stands quite a bit. Would you answer me a question please?
In your opinion, the assistants are doing a good job. My understanding is that the assistants have very little, if any, experience in terms of number of years as a varsity coach. Would it be fair to say that Coach Sammons is doing a good job of "coaching the coaches" with his system? After all, isn't that the ultimate role of a head coach? (Ex., Coach McGlone at Russell)
-
If you were watching, he did not start the fight, but he did finish it.
I am aware of what happened. Your version is not what I saw nor what I understood was stated before the game to other Raceland players by the aforementioned player.
We will agree to disagree.
-
Since the late 70's the little school up the road has taken your discontented and turned them into winners not only on the field but, in society
For example, Dalton Terry, a former player from Greenup County, was the first player ejected from the Raceland vs. Greenup County game last week?
http://www.dailyindependent.com/localsports/local_story_272014911.html
Raceland lineman Dalton Terry was the first to leave when a penalty was thrown on the third drive of the game.
Greenup County @ Harrison County (4A)
in KY Football (High School)
Posted
From the information given to me by a friend in Frankfort, Harrison County has some studs...and probably a lot more than the ones listed here.
Isaac #4 QB
Talbott #20 TE
Newby #25 TE
Sharp #32 RB
It appears that the injury bug has greatly affected this team earlier in the season and they are playing great ball now. Even though I picked Greenup County, it will be a difficult task for them to "climb the hill" to Cynthiana.
Note to Greenup, leave the fans in the stands this week.
