  1. I watched the highlights and this game was never close. McCreary needs to revaluate their program after this year. When Watts leaves they are gonna really be short. Watch those highlights, you have kids just standing out there not moving. The coaches have to get that stuff straightened out or they are never going to do anything. Knox Central just ran over them. Bronco99 I dont know what game you were watching but I would suggest you try to get a tape and look at it alittle closer.

Well, I don't know how a highlight film can show how close a game was in the 1st half but maybe you are the expert dreamland. Maybe we can get together and watch some game tape and you can teach me how to break it down. All i can say is I was there at the game which usually is better than watching a tape and the 1st half was a well played half by both teams and without a couple of mistakes from McCreary it could have been tied at the half. Do i want to see the Rock game head in that direction no I don't. Could it? Of course it could. Do I think McCreary can play with Rock? Yes, I even think they can win but they have to play a good ballgame for 4 quarters and I would have to say the same about Rockcastle. If Rock comes out flat because they think it's going to be easy and they start making mistakes McCreary will beat them without a doubt! I am definately pulling for the Raiders but I just want to see a great football game!:ylsuper:

  2. Wanna see it? http://www.knoxschools.tv/

Granted, this is a highlight film, but it doesn't look to close to me. It would appear that MCHS has a problem tackling and Watts is throwing his passes up for grabs.

It was a 2 score game at half just like the year before. Without 2 mistakes (not scoreinng inside the 10 and the 1 bad pass Watts threw the score would have been 14-14 at the half. There are a lot of scores every Friday that don't tell the story of the game we here it all the time on here and any one that watches alot of football knows this. Well, this is one of those games, you just had to be there. I will say that there is no doubt that KC dominated this game but there were circumstances. The game against Rock on Thur. is an entirely new game and I am sure it will have a bunch of new circumstances for both teams. Good luck to both teams and I hope it is an exciting, hard hitting, good sportsmanship and no injury type of a ball game and of course that the Raiders win!:ylsuper:

  3. Really good game the first half could have easily been 14-14 (would-oves and could-oves). McCreary didn't score once inside the 10 and Watts threw an INT for TD or it was 14-14 but it was a very competitive 1st half. Watts wasn't shut down we took him out because of a sore shoulder (possible seperation). The coaching staff as a whole decided not to risk furthur injury due to the fact that we needed him at 100% for the Madison Southern game (it paid off). We marched down the field on the legs of Roark in our 1st offensive possession until a 1st year Sophmore TE made a great catch around our own 25 and was then stripped of the ball. After giving up that possession we decided to pull Roark for the same above reasons we pulled Watts and by the end of the 3rd quarter we were playing 90%+ jv players. KC didn't start coming down until the 4th quarter (which is when teams usually come down) I wanted to put that in to show I wasn't bashing KC in any way. So yes, KC dismantled us that night but they didn't shut Watts down we took him out.

Now to make sure I am on thread: I don't know who is going to win this game that is why we play them. I hope we have a good night and every one stays healthy but what happened in the KC game could happen (to either team) and that could lead to a route for either team but I hope it dosen't happen (to either team). I think this will be a well played hard faught ball game and who ever creates the most breaks for their team wins (turnovers, special teams play ect..) and of course I am hoping that will be the Raiders! Good luck to both teams, Go Raiders we will see you on the gridiron!

    :thumb:I agree 100%. Go Raiders!

  4. I shouldn't even post this again but I will! Everyone keeps talking about shutting down Watts and I truely hope that is Rocks plan because if that is all they focus on (which i am sure their coaches are smarter than that) then the Raiders will win by 3 TD's. Roark will dominate the game if all they try to do is shut down Watts. McCreary has 4 scoring threats: Watts, Roark and the 2 WR dustin Stephens and Dustin Goins. Checkout the #s fellows, the stats won't lie to you. Roark had 178 yards Friday night and that isn't including the 90 yard kick return for a TD. Harlan wanted to keep it away from Watts so they kicked it to Roark and he danced for 90 yards. I hope everyone keeps trying to just stop Watts because we will beat the people who do. It is when Watts leaves the game on offense that we become 1 dimentional because you take away the passing threat to the 2 Dustin's. Well, I have told you all this time and time again but it seems everyone we play dosen't get it until after we play them and Roark runs for over a hundred and 2 or 3 TD's. I can't gaurantee the out come of the game but I will be very surprised if the Rock Jv's get any time in this game!:ylsuper:

  5. This game has district implications of 3rd and 4th seeds. The winner will be the 3rd seed in the playoffs. I am no doubt a Raider fan and I think the Raiders have a good chance of winning this game. They will have to play a very good game to do so, no turnovers, and keep the penalties to a minimum. They will also have to play better on the defensive line and run block better which I believe they will work on in practice all week. I know the Rock will be ready to play and they will come out in Rock fashion and hit MC in the mouth, the key for the Raiders is to return the favor. I am predicting a hard hitting hard faught football game and McCreary will come out on top 22-20!:ylsuper:

  6. Why the indecision on the day and the location? It won't matter where or when they play, Rock will win this one comfortably 38-14.

They are wanting to cut the electricity to the high school late on Wed.(which would also cut the lights for the field) because of renovations and McCreary will be out of school for a couple days. The way I heard it was the A.D. jumped the gun and told Rock that MC would play there for half the gate. But, this was MC's last home game of the year and the parents of the seniors were a little upsey about not having senior night so the administration did the right thing for the kids and postponed the electric being cut until after the game on Thur. So, the game will be at McCreary on Thursday with a 7:00 start time.

  7. Another fine display of running the football by the Green. If only we had stuck to it during pivotal points in the game. Also, why kick deep to those two great athletes? I am in no way trying to take anything away from McCreary. Great athletes make their plays one way or another. I think the dragons gave 100% for 4 quarters. They are all heart. But we continue to make mistakes from the sidelines. :madman: Congratulations to McCreary. It is good to see your program on the rise. :thumb:

I agree, the Green Dragon offensive line owned the night and their running back was a handful. I was glad that the Raiders defense held when they had to but they need a lot of work or adjustments from the coaches to get them where they can slow down their next apponent. I hope they really concentrate of the "D" side of the ball this week in practice and use this game as a tool to see what needs to be corrected! Again, my hats are off to the Green Dragons they played hard all night and congrats to the Raiders on a hard foaught well deserved win!

  8. Are either of these teams expected to make a deep playoff run? I don't think so, and both schools are much more known for their basketball.

Unexpected things happen all of the time that is why we play the game. If there is never an upset we would have no reason to play the games. We should just skip the regular season and jump straight to the semi finals and have a 2 game season. Or, we can let the kids play and try not to discourage their efforts with negative comments. But, I understand that putting teams down on here gives some people the feeling of power or something but it is still harmful to the kids and their programs to do so!

  9. Both teams are evenly matched. Where will they be come playoffs? I would say both will be preparing for basketball soon enough.

Good to see you are being so positive about other teams and I want to be the first to thank you. I am sure the Raider players who just had a nice victory appreciates it too as does the Green Dragon players who just faught their hearts out. But anyway, good job on the positive side!

  10. Williamsburg moved the ball the whole first half, but could not punch it in but once. Williamsburg dominated the second half offensively running and throwing and clicking on all cylinders. Defensively, Madison Southern got two big plays threw the passing game to hurt Williamsburg (one each half). The game went pretty much as expected, and the Williamsburg kids seemed to handle adversity well (with the number of first half penalties).

I completly understand where you are coming from. Sounds like the Jackets kept their composure and took care of business.

  11. Well in defense of the players at Southern, those kids simply turned the ball over in the fourth quarter. This game with Williamsburg will be a dogfight. Southern actually has a pretty competitive team, they have just shot themselves in the foot in key situations. Coach Brumley has a group of tough minded kids who just need to believe in each other. Southern has a great Junior class, and with a great offseason the future should be bright. I will always support Madison Southern, and the fans down there need to support them as well.

I in no way was trying to put Madison So. down. They played hard and were very respectfull on the field. I was just pointing out that McCreary had double digit turnovers in this game. We (the fans) didn;t think the officiating was very good but that is part of what you deal with in some weeks. The turnovers are something that can be prevented as well as the penalties McCreary needs to do better in both areas. They were lucky to come out of this game with a win. Good luck to Madison So Friday night!:ylsuper:

  12. The truth is McCreary could have scored 40 per half on M.S. but could not take care of the ball. Turnovers were a direct result in 21 of M.S. points. 4 out of the 5 TD's scored were passes over the top. I said all of that to get to this: W-burgs D-line and LBers are definately able to shut down M.S.'s running game and M.S. isn't much of a throwing threat. W-burg's Offense will pick apart M.S.'s "D" and because of the passing game the TB will have well over 100 yards. All of this factored in and I would have to say W-burg wins by 40 unless they play at Madison Southern then it will be closer!:ylsuper:

  13. Ok, I agree with most of that. But, a good 5A team should have more talent than a good 1A team. Talent and Coaching wins games. More kids to choose from equals more talent or at least it should).

McCreary is a 4A school and should have 80-100 players but the interests of the kids here are things like hunting, fishing, riding ATV's or even working as a volunteer fireman. It's crazy I know but that is the culture they grew up in. It has slowly changed and when there is enough players who has grown up, had kids of their own, and stay in this community then we will have those kinds of numbers. Look at the mountain schools and their player and tell me how many of their dads played football at the school they are playing at. I would say you will find that the percentage is very high. Out of 48 players on the Mccreary roster i would say there are maybe 10 kids that has dad's who played football in high school. History and tradition makes a huge difference in the numbers at the mountain or rural schools. McCreary will get there someday, I'm just not sure when or how long it will take. I just hope it is in my life time!:ylsuper:

  14. I cant understand why people think because schools are in 1A that you are a weaker team. This blows me away when ever i hear that. The division does not say a thing about what kind of players a team has. I can sit back and think about some awful good 1A, 2A an 3A in the past that have beat your bigger schools. So if you now anything about sports, you know that any team can only be as good as their talent allows, along with their coaching staff. Granted, usually 1A, 2A, or 3A don't have as many kids to choose from as your 4A, 5A, or 6A but the smaller schools will usually have more talented athletic kids who play because they are more familiar with the kids and go after them. Whereas your bigger schools have a harder time pinpointing them out unless they have at least given the middle or high school level a chance and played where the coaches can go after them to play and not drop out as well.

Without being familiar with these two teams and knowing the talent that both consist of, you cannot judge based on the resulting score. I think both will have winning seasons and I hope they both go far in the playoffs.

Thats what I have been trying to tell people on here!:thumb:

  15. This should be interesting, on paper McCreary is much better, but I've seen teams with a bigger disparity leave Harlan with a loss. How McCreary handles the bus ride and the hostile environment in Harlan will determine this game.

It dosen't get more hostile than it did at Madison Southern last Friday night and the Raiders kept their composure, played as a team and scored 30 un-answered points in the 4th quarter to win the game. That is what playing together and working hard for 4-quarters will get you. I have been to Harlan on many occassions and I know the Raiders will have to play hard for 4-quarters in order to get it done and I think after last Friday they will be up for the task. IMO!

  16. Thanks outlawcoach, the big come from behind win last week sparked some enthusiasm throughout the entire school. Things are getting better but I will have to agree with Bronco99 and the administration need to get behind the program 100% for it to really take off. I am glad you are pulling for us and I completly understand about your loyalties this Friday. Good luck the remainder of the year(except Friday of course).

Hey HouseofPain glad to see you start posting on here and good luck to the Raiders on Friday.

  17. 4A Mcreary should edge out Single A Harlan. With Harlan being down this year, they will not be able to handle the Watts kid. Without Watts these teams would be pretty much even.

It is apparent that you are not very up to date with much of anything dealing with Mccreary Co football. MC has had 5 different receivers catch TD's this year (Watts can throw them but someone has to catch them) and Roark is as good of tailback as their is in the state. He would get his share of carries no matter what team he played for. Also, get over 4-A vs 1-A you schedule teams who are around your playing level regardless of classification examples: Belfry/Johnson Central, Danville/Boyle Co Somerset/Sothwestern and the list goes on. MC tries to schedule so they are competitive with their non-district schedule since they play in the toughest district in 4-A. McCreary's schedule for next year is a little tougher and it will hopefully continue to get better as we hope MC football gets better, But at some point along the way the Administration in MC will have to step up to the plate in order for the program to turn the corner.

  18. Best Schedules the past few years in the region have been West, Wayne, Boyle and Lincoln Co. If you look this year at thier schedules on KHSAA it seems these teams again have great schedules.

As far as Jones at McCreary getting fired- dont see it happening! Plus Watts is just a junior- Mccreary will be good this year and next- McCreary along with about 3-4 other teams in region will have shots the next 2 years.

As far as McCreary being political- isnt every school system anymore?

Yes to some degree but you see the old school politics (that was around 20 years ago) in McCreary Co. It is hard to explain unless you live or work here. My kids will soon be out of school and I won't have to worry with it any more!
