  1. MC is definately blessed with size and speed but were last year as well. I hope that they can fix the problems with the defense because they didn't play well on that side of the ball in 08. I also hope they can stay healthy. MC fans are expecting a good year and we will be disapointed if they don't finish better than 500% in 09! Everyone is behind you guys so go get'em Raiders. :ylsuper:

  2. The future of Madison Southern looks bright. The team has worked their tails off this winter and Coach Brumley deserves the credit for teaching these kids hard work. Southern will be led by Seniors Rico Brown (RB/DB), Caleb Morris (G/NG), and Nate Gibson (T/DE). Southern will have a ton of team speed, and OL play should determine if Southern can rebound from a disappointing 2008. Southern will also have a very good Freshman class coming in and I look for 1 or two of them to help out fairly quickly. I feel like Southern will get in the playoffs this year, and many teams will overlook this team because of last year. Southern returns almost every starter from last year, and Sophomore QB Chris Roberts should raise a few eyebrows. Chris started 8 games as a freshman last year and has grown over the winter. Everybody knows about Rico Brown, but his able running mate Devon Johnson should close in on 1000 yards as well. Coach Brumley has worked extremely hard after the way the program was left, and from what my boys tell me the team really rally's behind their coach. Expectations are on the rise in Berea. This team is loaded with Sophomores and Juniors and with the Freshman class having some contributors the Eagles may be flying high.

I watched the MS and MC game last year and after looking at MS schedule last year I don't know how anyone can overlook this team. They are loaded with talent and speed and are very capable of puting big numbers up offensively but just like MC they need to work on their defense because the name of the game is out scoring your opponent. I wish Madison So. all the luck in the world for 2009 and hope they win every game but 1.

  3. You know what, we need to cut this stuff out in this thread. I am the most guilty party involved here too.

Any chance a mod can take all the posts regarding the "A Classic" and morph it into a thread for the Basketball forum? I don't want to take away from the football discussion any more than I already have. It is the more important sport after all.

Amen to that! I think everyone can agree football is the #1 sport. :ylsuper:

  4. Things must be vastly different at MC. They have had superior talent the last two years and couldn't seem to do much with it. To say they are close to Knox is ludicrous.

That's true, last year MC played with a bunch of sophmores and a frw fresh and this year they had the injury bug strike when their record was 4-2. However, to give WB their props, MC was 100% healthy when the two played and for the second year in a row it was a great game. Good luck to W-burg in 2009!

  5. KC is a big step up, especially this year, from MCC for Williamsburg.

Not a knock on MCC, but KC is vastly better across the field this season than MCC.

I am not sure I agree with you. KC lost most of what made them so tough last year. As stated in other posts their QB was the heart and soul of their team. MC didn't lose any skilled players and may have the best O-line they ever had. I just can't see where KC is any better more the less "VASTLY". I know as many others do that W-burg had 3 dates to fill and had them posted on the web, MC tried to play two of those dates but WB refused. Like I have posted earlier, I have many friends who work at W-burg and one use to coach and he told me the feeling in the burg is they would rather lose to anyone by 100 than lose to MC by 1. Bottom line they didn't want to play and that is their option. MC and their fans are upset they ran like they did and that is their option. KC is a tough game for anyone as Coach Mills has built a very strong program and will definately be a tough game for WB. We will let the 2009 season tell us if it was a step up or not! :ylsuper:

  6. I say do away with the off week that way the season can get finished the 1st weekend of December.

Go to a 5 class system. I think his would help a lot of problems with travel and hopefully eliminate 0-10 teams making the playoffs.

Bring back the June 7 on 7 stuff. Teams that want towrok and want to build a great program use this time wisely. I am guessing this is probably supported by lazy coaches who don't want to have to coach in June and don't want anyone else too either. I know some basketball coaches supported the idea too, but I heard a lot of football coaches were for it.

As for the state championship games, I don't know exactly how you make it like the Sweet 16. Its outdoors in December. Thats tough to draw a ton of fans in.

I agree with the 5 class system for sure. That would most likely move McCreary out of Bell Co's district and anything that does that is good for me! :D

  7. Hey, it ain't my dream ... it's just reality.

No matter how hard football people try, the state championships will never become as big as the Sweet 16, which is an event with tradition and much more than just a basketball tournament ... it's one giant reunion of people from all corners of Kentucky.

Two sessions of the Sweet 16 drew 21,000 fans ... the only time it happens at the state football finals is when Trinity meets St. Xavier in Louisville. And the December weather plays a big role in that.

Yea, you may be right but you better hope corn-hole doesn't get sanctioned as a KHSAA sport or the tide will definately turn away from B-ball!

  8. As I read the posts on this thread I can't help but wonder how those 3rd and 4th seeded teams that made it to the 2nd and 3rd rounds (or farther) feels about people on here saying they should not have even been in the playoffs?

Oh, and westsider keep holding on to the dream about KY being a basketball state because it is slowly changing. I keep praying for UK to win 1 national title because that would really shake things up. Oh yea, Commonwealth stadium is completely maxed out on Saturdays for every home football game no matter the weather. I think the casual fan attendence is growing each year for the championship games and I agree if the KHSAA made it as big of deal as they make the sweet 16 the fan base would grow to enormous numbers. IMO! :ylsuper:

  9. I would say they have to get some supporting players for their QB. He is a good athlete but didn't have a lot of help. How many starters are they returning? If they hve most of their starters back and the same coaching staff it will be a start. :ylsuper:

  10. Dad lost job - fact. Had to relocate and Lex. was best offer - fact. Went to Scott Co. because they have a great program close to the college that his son had committed to - fact. Where is the hangup here? What partyline reply? Move wasn't initially basketball motivated. Selection of school was. Again, what is getting lost here? There's no insult to anyone's intelligence if everyone will use theirs.

    Well said! :thumb:

  11. It could be argued that it hurts Kentucky Football as a whole. Sure it doesn't hurt any one player or school directly, on the surface. But, it could be argued that having to many classes cuts down on competition for some schools, creates complacency, and creates a boring championship series if you know who is going to win most classes in most years. All the while decreasing the excitement and atmosphere of the Championship games.

I know we can argue the opposite, but if you want an answer.............

I don't know about everyone else but I have been to the championships the last two years and it was anything but boring. Ram I know you were just stating for the sake of argument but I had to say that it has been very exciting so far. I think it helps football as a whole as well. I say this because teams that usually have no shot at postseason now do which attracts players and there has been several teams, if I'm not mistaken, that have been 3 and 4 seeds to advance past the first round the last couple of years. I am not saying 6 classes are perfect but neither was 4 classes. I have come to the conclusion that you can't please everyone. Also, some people out there just like to complain. I would like to find out how many BGP'ers that complain about the 6 class system also complained about the 4 class system. I bet there are one or two out there. :ylsuper:

  12. The Raiders from McCreary Central will be up this year. I think they will make some noise and surprise some people. I am not saying they will go 10-0 or anything but should be a thorn in everyone's side and beat some people that most don't expect them to. I talked to a good friend of mine on the coaching staff and he said they are having a great spring practice. he said the discipline level is at an all time high and they are accomplishing everything they need to accomplish. I asked him what we could expect in 2009 and he said the O-line will be 100% better and the defense will make a 100% improvement. I am going to try and go to one practice next week to see for myself and then I will give everyone a first hand account on how its going. :ylsuper:

  13. First, does anyone know when the KHSAA will post the 2009 football scoreboard so we can see everyone's schedule?

Second, I would like anyone who can post their teams schedule so we all can get a look at who is playing who.

I am getting very excited about the season. I have been working out of town a lot on the weekends so I can get the weekends off during football season. Those Friday night lights will be burning soon boys!:ylsuper:

  14. I agree those kids will be hard to replace. I think they will still have a good football team next season. They will be competing for 2nd place in the district with Rockcastle.

I don't necessaily agree with you, I don't think that Bell Co automatically gets #1 this year. I think it will be tough to beat them as well as it will be tough to beat Rock and Knox Co. however, I think that Madison So. and Mccreary will be much better this year as both teams have everyone back. I think this is probably the toughest district in 4-A and to answer the question of this thread I think Knox will have to play to the best of their ability every Friday night because every district game they play will be a tough one and I think Knox as well as the other district teams are fighting for the # 1 spot at this point. IMHO!:ylsuper:

  15. The Raiders will win and it could be by as much as 10 points. Everyone keeps asking how Roark can dominate inside against much taller players. I will tell you, he is a very tough and physical kid and basketball contact is not even close to the contact he gets in football. As a matter of fact the top two kids on the Raiders team is Watts and Roark and they both are also studs on the gridiron. Everyone better be glad that Dickson, Wright, Privett and the rest doesn't play football because if they had the football grit that Watts and Roark has they would be state contenders. I will say McCreary wins 64-53 and win the Raiders when the district they have to be one of the favorites to win the region! :ylsuper:

  16. Hate to admitt it but McCreary Central will be home again.

The way I here it Raider Rob has things under control and is getting his team ready to peak at tourny time or atleast that is what the people around him are saying. That means they will win atleast one game in the district tourny and win out in the regional tourny. That is what the Raider and Rob faithfull say is going to happen. I hope they are right and we get to see them play in Rupp. I have only been able to attended one game this year but I would definately arrange my schedule so I could make the trip to Lexington to support the Raiders.

  17. I think Leslie Co. will be better, loosing their QB will hurt. Madison So. will be better with most of their people back. Mc creary Central could be real good. With Watts and Roark in backfield. McCreary has 21 players back that started at least one game. 10 back on both sides of the ball. May be time for them to step up and play with some of the big boys. From looking at their schedule Coach Gay thinks they can step it up.:dancingpa

I hope you are right cellking, I want to see the Raiders have a winning season this year. Do you know how many home games they will have in 2009? Last year was hard on the fans with just 3 home games!

  18. This is a good question for all over the state so I thought I would start a thread that would get some responses that interested me. I think there will be several teams to watch. Madison Southern has everyone back and even though they went 0-10 last season they are very talented and were playing a very tough schedule. If they lightened up their schedule a bit where they can get some confedence early in the season they could really surprise some people. Also, Harlan's Green Dragons will step it up this year I think as will Leslie Co. Harlan's Black Bears with their legendary coach in his secound season will definately be a force to recon with and Whitley Co. will be tough again this year. Finally, the McCreary Central Raiders will have the ability to turn heads, they have everyone back in the skilled positions and only lost 5 seniors due to graduation. If they work on their offensive line play and get tougher on defense they can make a lot of noise this year. Please give your feedback and input as I am bored and ready for football to start again and this is the only thing that eases my anticipation for the start of the 2009 season!:ylsuper:

  19. Politics aren't in his favor now with the new board members and super.

That is not the word I have, His aunt is a new board member and I also heard he controls the other two new board members and one of the old board members is now supporting him. Sounds like he controls the politics to me! However, that is only my opinion. I don't know much about the basketball program and have only attended a couple of games this year because I have been working out of town a lot. Football is my sport but I don't think my son is going to play next year he said he want to get a job and buy a car. I hope he changes his mind! Good luck to the Raiders the rest of the year!:dancingpa
