Rojas, do you REALLY believe there are athletic scholarships in high school?
Yes, I do. Apparantly the KHSAA believes this too. A well known Catholic high school was recently put on probation and had to pay a $30,000 fine for providing financial assistance to athletes.
-
Thats easy to say. But there are some circumstances where I believe a kid has a right to make a change. What if the coach is constantly cursing at the kid and treating the kid poorly?
Some of you may not believe this, but there are some bad coaches out there. Coaches I wouldn't want my kid playing for if I were a father.
He has a right to make a change without special circumstances.
-
I don't think any kid (Catholic schools not withstanding) are on athletic scholarships. If a multi-sport kid wants to drop one sport and concentrate on another in mid season to concentrate on another why should the basketball coach tell him he has to wait until football is over to practice? Is he attending high school on a football scholarship?

Sounds like someone's a little touchy this morning.
-
I not only think it is unrealistic for Scott Co to come close to matching last season's accomplishments, it is also unfair to expect any team in Kentucky to match last seasons SC accomplishments.
-
Pedestal? I don't think anyone is holding SC up on a pedestal. Are you condeming the whole Scott Co basketball program because of the actions of one kid?

I meant to start post with '99 team! '00 was a lost season (but still finished in final four)!
I don't know if I agree that the 2000 Scott County team was a "lost season". If I remember correctly they went 30-5 and beat a USA Today top 10 team in St Raymonds in the finals of the 5th 3rd. I also remember they had Lex Cath on the ropes in the Sweet 16 semi finals when a very questionable no call with about 90 sec to go turned the game in Lex Caths favor. The 00 team was a very special team also.

The '99 Scott County team, ranked 5th in the nation....that is..... minus one big blunder in the championship game!
38-2 only two loses to in state rival Ballard, the last one mattered the most!
The 99 team did accomplish a lot. Did you know there were 5 players in City of Palms tournament that the Scott County 99 team won that played in the NBA? I think they were actually ranked #6 in the USA Today poll.
However, I still think the 2007 team accomplished more. Undefeated in Kentucky, State Champions, beat the number one team in the nation (in every poll except USA Today, #2 in USA Today). Played maybe the toughest instate schedule in memory. The 99 team may have been more talented but no team in my memory accomplished more than the 2007 team.

Everyone in the 13th is wanting South Laurel to not be competitive this season. It's not gonna happen. They won't be as dominate as they have been the past few seasons with the loss of Proffitt, Hammons, Smith, and company, ... but Steve Wright's teams are ALWAYS competitive. The Cardinals will be fine.
They will be competitive in the 13th, not the favorite but competitive. However, they will not be competitive on the state level as they have been. When you graduate the players they have during the last 3 years some drop off can be expected. How big a drop off is the question.

If he works hard and polishes the skills he already has then he will be a force his Jr/Sr years. 6'10 and with his experience playing in the State Tournament will make him an unstoppable player but he has to work hard and develop what he already has.
6'6", 6'8", 6'10". Wow. This hype reminds me a little of when the big Mills kid was playing at Corbin. According to the Corbin people he was growing about an inch every two weeks. He went from 6'6" to 6'10" over the summer. However, during the season when he was playing against a legit 6'10" center he appeared to be several inches shorter.
-
If SL makes it to Rupp this year Steve Wright should be considered for coach of the year. I was however impressed with the development of St John at the end of last year.
-
Excuse my ignorance, but who is the Adams kid, and what does he bring to the table for Coach Hicks and Scott County???
Adams was a key substitute guard for SC last year. He is a very good 3 point shooter. He will provide much needed depth at guard. In the Scott Co system you need 3 or 4 guards that can give you a lot of minutes.

What does Scott Co need to do to improve in 2007/2008?
I don't know if its possible to improve on what Scott Co accomplished last year. 34-2, state champion, undefeated in the state, beat a team with 2 McD. All Americans, played the states toughest schedule by far. Improvement may be an unrealistic expectation.
-
Who looks like they will take his place in the starting lineup if you had to guess?
I don't think that's even important right now, do you?
-
This may move SC to about 5th. I you remember last year SC lost their top returning scorer and rebounder before the season started.
However, when you see a kid on the way to ruining a promising future, who cares about rankings.
-
I don't think expulsion from high school would be Mackey's biggest concern right now. It is my understanding that Scott Co High School officials had Mackey arrested.
-
Horrible news. At this point its not about state championships, Mr. Basketball, or scholarships. Its about a kid ruining his future and prison.

the contractor is about two months ahead of schedule with the project and that they should finish the project in April 2008. The building is really taking shape and looks great.
That's great to hear. Not many construction projects finish ahead of schedule. How are they doing "staying on budget" wise?

Its hard for me to get excited about the 12th because there are no state powers. When Wayne Co had great teams, when South Laurel was in the 12th, when North Laurel had the "foreign invasion", when South had the "Miami connection", at least there was a little excitement, even if you didn't agree with what was going on.
From a fan who does not live in the 12th, its hard to get excited about Lincoln County and the Jessimine County schools. I'm sure if I was a fan of one of the schools I would see it differently. I feel the same about a couple of the other regions.
-
I don't agree that Scott Co , last season , was one of the best in KHSAA history. They lucked out in the championship game . Don't quite agree with that statement. :argue:
What High School team in KY history accomplished more?

Propsed new 13th
51st
Red Bird
Knox Central
Bell
Barbourville
52nd
Middlesboro
Harlan Ind
Harlan county Central
Pineville
I like your allignment except I think you need to switch Bell High and Pineville. The way you have it, the Harlan Co schools and Pineville would have to drive by Bell High to get to Middlesboro, and Red Bird, Barbourville and Knox Central would have to travel through Pineville to get to Bell High. If you switch Bell High and Pineville at least you would have a contiguous boundary between the districts.
-
Its Harlan County High School. There is no Central.
You want to talk about somebody that got a tough deal? I bet Sayre school would be willing to change places with any school in the state.
-
Jordan Lee- Probably will go to an OVC level school
Who's Number 1 to start the Year?
in KY Boys Basketball (High School)

Catsrule may have been going by Scott County's game against GRC. That was one of those games when SC was clicking on all cylindars and nothing could go wrong. They had GRC by about 55 before GRC cut it to 45 late in the game.
