Strait 18, Wilcox 16, Ward 13, Dietrich 8. Laisha Ward had another double-double with 17 rebounds to go with her points.

Did this game happen???
Nope, cancelled.

I see many of the 16th region coaches regularly scouting. I believe that a lot of the 16th region coaches don't show a lot of new stuff late in the season due to the "eyes" in the stands. They don't want to give away any tricks to be used in the post season. By season's end, many 16th region coaches know the names and even hand-signals for many of their opponents offensive plays and set their defenses accordingly.

Per the KHSAA website Rowan Co. is visiting Montgomery Co. tonight. The website shows that this girl's game is still on. Can any Rowan or Montgomery fans confirm this?
Also can someone give me directions to Montgomery Co.'s gym. I am coming from the Ashland area. Any help would be greatly appreciated!!!

I get your point, just reminded me of another school in another region (9) that went from contender the last 3-4 years to major struggling this year.
The coach is always saying that they are just young, after a while you get tired of hearing it especially after 20 games has been played and the season is coming to an end. Coaches get paid to teach the game and find ways to be competetive and win occasionally.
There is no question that coaching can make a big difference (possibly the biggest difference) depending on the situation, but to win consistently you must have talent and experience. The Rose Hill girls ALL play hard and will be very competitive players in the future, but you can't expect them win consistently at their age or experience level - regardless of the coaching. I believe that the RH coaching staff is looking at this as a developmental year and seeing success as improvement from October ot February. To expect more from this young team (and coaching staff) is naive thinking.

I know this may sound pretty stupid but I will say it anyway. I thought this was a good game for Rose Hill even though they got beat by 27 points. The girls played really hard for 3 quarters and was only down by 10-13 points most of the game. Raceland has a good team and a lot bigger than Rose Hill and they wore the young girls out in the fourth quarter. Rose Hill pressed most of the game and it seemed to keep them in it until the fourth quarter and then they ran out of gas.
I agree, I attended this game and I thought RH's kids showed a lot of heart. I was surprised that RH kept it so close against a much bigger and stronger Raceland team, especially with Vanderhoof back. I thought RH's Gamble was a big positive for RH hitting about 12 points and running the show. Pretty impressive for a 7th grader. She's going to be a major player in the 16th in the years to come.
On the flipside, good win for Raceland. Great to see Vanderhoof back. I hope that she stays healthy the rest of the season. She epitomizes all that is good about high school sports - great work ethic, great attitude, great sportsmanship, just a great all-around kid.

From the other game post its sounded like a heartbreaker for the Lady Vikings. Good run at the end of the game, just fell a little short to a very good North Hardin team. Good luck to the Lady Vikings the rest of the regular season.

I have seen three officials mulitple times @ girls games this year in the 8th region - especially with the top teams. They don't do a better job with three and one of them is always waiting for the other one to make the call.
I totally agree.

how many of Trimble's players are still out due to injury?
Clark (a guard) and Vanderhoof (does everything) are still out. Yes, the Lady Rams do have a depleted roster right now, but still a good win for Ashland against a well coached team. I'm sure that Bradley and his girls would have rather played against a healthy Raceland squad. With the addition of Vanderhoof and Clark I believe that Raceland will be right in the regional mix. Good luck to the Lady Rams and the Kittens as the rest of the season plays out.

How did Ward do? There was a nice article on her in the Independent last week.
On a side note, I hope the RH kids don't read about their potential break up on a message board. It might be hard to "finish the season strong" if they do.
Good Point Syndrome - Looking back, I probably shouldn't have asked the question, but my curiousity got the best of me. Good luck to the Lady Royals for the rest of the season.
I don't have any stats, but I heard that Ward had a double-double in reb/scoring (as she has consistently had all season) in limited playing time. IMO she is the most dominant player in the region right now. From the article, it sounds like Bradley has done a great job in mentoring her in basketball and in life the past few seasons.
Also sounds like the Kittens are a really close knit group of girls that enjoy each other on and off the court. Its nice to hear about a team like this, when it seems like nowadays that all we ever hear about is players quitting teams, parents unhappy with playing time, etc...
-
Yes I would say this is a different team than you have seen the last few years considering they start 1 senior, 1 soph, 2 8th graders and 1 seventh grader.
Like I have said before this is a very young team that never gives up, the younger group has won many games in the past and could have been a very special group in about 2 years. Those that have seen these girls play in the past and at the beginning of the year would have to agree. Unfortunately I am pretty sure that this team will not be back together as a whole team next year.
Why do you say this? Talking to some of the RH fans this season (and last season) they all have said what a promising young group this is. Yes, they will have a rough few years but then most RH fans seem to think they can be real contenders in the 16th. Why would any of these young players want to leave this situation. Do you have some inside info?
-
I agree that the Young royals never gave up - something I should have added in my earlier post. The Lady Royals play very hard and can hold their heads high. I also heard that the Gambal (?) kid played very well and is only a 7th grader. I saw her in a game against Boyd game earlier this year and I was impressed. If RH can develop some more young players like her, RH has a bright future.
-
Great win for the Rowan girls. Makes them 2 for 2 against a very good Mason team. I heard that 5 players for Rowan scored in double figures. Those kind of stats win regional titles.
The Chambers girl for Mason must be the real deal.
-
Good win for the Kittens. Looks like a good defensive effort as Ashland is the only team to hold the lady Royals in the 20's all season. Per the KHSAA website the Kitten's record is now 14-3.
-
Good rebound win for Russell after losing to Boyd this week. Kidwell will have the Lady Devils ready for Districts.
-
I am pretty sure the Ashland game has been moved to Saturday at 10 in the morning.
After reading a lot of RH/Ashland bashing on BGPs it nice to see Ashland making this accomodation for the RH girls so they can see their boys play in the All A tourney. Kudos should be given to Coach Bradley.
-
Is this game going to be played on Feb 2?? I heard tonight that Rose Hill decided to reschedule this due to their boys playing in the All "A". They play on Thursday 1/31 with no guarantee that they will be playing in the semi's on Sat 2/2. Did they also cancel their game with Raceland on 2/1 because if they win on Thursday they will be playing on Friday? Just curious because both games are still on their schedule but I heard they already called to cancel the officials for their game with Ashland on Sat.
Isn't this a little premature?? Especially since the Ashland game is a district game. From what I understand they proposed a make-up date that would give Ashland 4 games in 5 days. Be surprised if that one flies.
Its nice to see 16th region teams trying to accomodate each other, but at this point in the season a coach must look after his own. 4 games in a week is asking too much of any team this close to tourney time IMO.

Rowan will still cruise to Diddle Arena and represent the 16th Region this year.
Don't be too confident. Remember that Rowan beat Morgan on a last second shot at Rowan. I still believe that Rowan is the best team in the 16th, but to say they will cruise to Diddle -- I don't know about that...They are beatable on any given night, just like any other team in the 16th.
-
Wow! This is a huge win for Lewis, especially since Morgan just recently took Rowan County into overtime.
-
Sadly no. If they meet it will be in the regionals. I think that both of these teams are improving as the season continues. A regional matchup would be more than worth the ticket price.
-
So, they haven't lost in the 16th yet?
Rowan and Ashland are the only teams that haven't been beaten by another 16th region team. Rowan is 8-0 in the region (15-3 overall) and Ashland is 10-0 in the region (13-2 overall)

It appears that Coach Bradley has his girls playing their best ball at the right time of the season as the Kittens improve to 21-3.
